Differences between Frankencar and Berk Intakes (Apexi version)?

Just wondering. Looks like I'm limited to a Berk anyways since Frankencar seems kaput.

Also, prepare to wait a LONG time to get one. Berk and Franken.. have bad distributors. Berk and Frank.. are good places, but they have trouble supplying the parts.

My experience ... Intakes are essentially the same except for customer service Berk will at least respond when you need information. Frankencar would never answer my phone calls or e-mails.

Update: Berk intake w/Apexi ordered.

I called and someone actually answered the phone! I asked them to check their inventory, they took my phone# and called me back in about an hour. Said the setup was in stock and I should have it sometime next week.

No complaints here! (of course, I haven't got my intake yet, but so far so good.)

Oh yeah, and I asked about differences, if any-

The guy said that he believed the Frankencar pipe was be made out of a mild steel which seemed to be cut by pipe cutter, vs. the Berk 6061 Aluminum pipe. Other than that, he said they were a very similar setup.

He did point out that Berk was a bit cheaper because of their volume discount on Apexi filters.

Suuuurrre.

I'm interested in Berk, so I'm curious how it all turns out. Keep us posted!

They didn't give me the stickers I was supposed to get when I got my intake a few years ago and I emailed them a few times and nothing. (not that stickers really matter, but I was supposed to receive them)

You'll be very happy. I installed my exhaust first (and paid much more) and was happy with it, but when combined with the Berk/A'pexi power intake the car screams. And to quote M1RAG3, 3500+ sounds and feels awesome.

Could it quite possibly be the demand? You think?

Most likely you spoke with Brian (great guy - cobymoby on here). You'll definately get your stuff in a timely manner.

Brian is a really nice guy, I've been running the Berk Intake for 3 years now and no problem at all, no MAF to replace or what so ever.

A+

Yeah, I'm 'fraid o' the MAF failure! Apexi all the way. I wil definitely fork over the $ for a new filter every 30K miles in exchange for not F**king up my MAF.

I still have yet to fix the throttle hesitation which is getting VERY annoying. I've just gotta find some time to get it into the dealer for the reprogramming TSB. Feels like I'm driving a friggin automatic. I did talk to the service manager already and he obviously didn't know squat about the problem. His initial response was that I just needed to get used to the drive-by-wire system.

So that was off-topic. But yeah, (doublea) good to hear about 3 years on your Berk. I am just assuming that you have the Apexi filter? Have you had to replace the filter yet?

I dont have the Apexi filter. I have a 3 x Ractive filter that I clean and re-oiled with the K & N kit. I always have one that is ready to install so whenever I cleaned one, there is plenty of time for the oil to set back in the filter and not ending up in the MAF. I've been doing this for 3 years, I'm very meticulous I guess that why I never got a bad MAF ever. I'll probably get an Apexi some day when my S/C goes in.

You will be very pleased w/ the Berk/ Apexi combo. I have never had one issue w/ it. Bryan is a good dude, and will take care of you.

The Berk basically perfected the Frank design, as it wraps around to the side of the battery, which acts as a heat shield.

doublea: Seems like one of the 5.5gen MAF's (hopefully not mine) is more "sensitive" than the previous 5thgen version. But for sure letting the newly oiled filter set for a long while before installing is the smart move.

As for the battery heat shielding, etc. I'll take it regardless. It looks like gains all the way around. more powah, mean growl, good quality.
I have seen some threads about low end losses, but I can't remember if that was specific to the Berk.

Thanks for making this thread egr13. I just purchased a 2000 Maxima SE and i have been looking for a decent intake for it and all i was able to find up until this point was the full on CAI from Injen for like $300! Too much! The Berk setup looks great so please keep us updated.

Thanks again!

Most definetly. I wasn't saying Berk and Frankencar was to blame. They are good places. Just the manufacturer can't keep up on the demand like you said.
