Auto shift ****, Cut to perfection????
Has anyone ever cut their automatic shift ****, so it's shorter?? I know I saw someone make it look like it was stick shift and he cut it it shorter but I forgot who he was. If anyone has done this Pics would be great!!!
I did the mod.
All you have to do is take off the auto shifter and take a dremal or hacksaw or what you want to cut it down to the height you want it but make sure you dont cut the inside rod. When you get the outer cylinder down to the height you want then cut the other rod till it is about 1 inch higher than the outside part. After that you can use a ball shifter or auto shifter or a pacifier if you want. It will work as a push down mechanism to engage the shifter. Like a 6 speed when you want to put it into reverse. Then you can either put a shift boot from a manual on or some members have wrapped the bar in black or silver tape. There is also A how to in the mod sections i think.

The chrome part on the shifter is the same color as the dash, I just dont have recent pics.
Dude, thats nice! Yeah, I think you were the one who did the write up right?
No potato (not sure the full name) did that write-up. But it does work great. If you're using the stock shifter then its pretty easy. You just need to make sure not to break things when you take them off.

this is a side note.. but any of u auto guys put the car in 1, then 2, then D.
this way you can have some more control of your tranny and can actually pick up some speed the way you want it to

I dont know about hurting it, but basically your taking over the Computers part and telling it when YOU want to shift.
Anyway, Why isnt that other thread in the STICKIES?
Well it isnt good for an automatic, that's why it's an automatic. There a few threads that went over this but yeah....I just think you should stay away from shifting the auto. The thread isnt a sticky because he didnt want everyone to do it. Plus I believe there is something about cutting the stock shifter. But his thread you need to be careful because certain things are different if you are using the stock shifter.
although i have never done it, i can't see where it will hurt anything. from what i do know, its all mechanical. (no wires). the only thing really being done is moving the whole assembly down a few inches. someone im sure could screw it up, but a person with enough common sense should be able to do it w/o a problem. imo.

and for all you auto haters, (i would love a 5spd) nothing will be as consistent or as strong as a properly built automatic and complementing torque converter. 5 spds are just more enjoyable to drive. a properly built automatic will boast better times than those of an identically outfitted manual vehicle in all but the most competitive vehicle.
Well that is a good find. But did you read it? Because it clearly says there is nothing that makes it better to shift the auto. You said you should shift it because you have more control. Well thats true but there is no gain from doing it that way.
Thats because you're pushing your foot down. If you do it right you'll get the same response. If I push to fast the car holds back then goes. If you add the right tension it will pick up very nicely.
