My stock clutch is starting to go. Does it make sense to go aftermarket or stay with OEM? I don't need anything with crazy performance but I will go aftermarket if the price is cheaper. Will OEM last longer? Also, do I need to replace the clutch plate and pressure bearing as well? Any specific brands that are recommended? Thanks.

 

also, my mechanic recommended replacing the crankshaft seal. It's not leaking yet but he said it might in the future. Does this make sense?

 

If you are not looking for crazy performance, I would stay with an OEM clutch kit. Although keep in mind that it needs to be placed together instead of purchasing everything the Key Value clutch kit which comes in one box. You will need the clutch disk, pressure plate and make sure to replace the pressure bearing. Look around for older threads where this has been discussed in the past. Just make sure not to get the Key Value clutch kit since it's complete garbage.

I believe the rear main seal is supposed to leak eventually. How many miles do you have? I replaced my oem clutch at around 70k cuz it was slipping. But when my mechanic friend took the clutch out, he said that the reason why it was slipping was because that the rear main seal was leaking oil onto the clutch.

But if you want cheap and reliable, get the oem clutch because it is guaranteed to be a nice ride. I bought a Spec stage 1 clutch after mine left, and I regret it till this day. The spec clutch chattered like a **** and the friction point changes all day long and its like 270 shipped in the group buy section as opposed to 100 something for the oe clutch? All I know is that its cheaper and I wish I went witht the oem clutch. I usually don't type this much, but stick with OEM if thats all the power you're gonna need.

 

Yea I'm just looking for a daily driver clutch so I'll stick with OEM. Thanks for the input.

 

Just like I said in my previous reply, stay away from the Key Value clutch kit. If you want to get the same clutch what came with your AE, you need to put it together. My AE has over 150K, I am thinking of installing ACT Stage 1 over the winter since V1 is going to be installed in the spring.

I put in an act stage one and I had the problem of a little chattering when releasing the clutch, and also the friction point changed non-stop

 

i'm thinkin about buying a sachs OEM replacement. Anyone know anything about it?
