Creaking noise from rear suspension

Put Eibach & Illuminas on about 3 months ago. Now when I leave my driveway and drive over the rolled curb the rear suspension creaks, not really a squeak, but not metal on metal sound either. Any ideas???

i had the same problem. I took my max into the dealership for oil change/tuneup and told them about the problem. They did something but it fixed the problem. I don't remember off hand, but ill look up my service records to see what they did to fix it.

I recently had Tein H Techs and Illuminas installed on my Max and have that same crecking noise in the front suspension also!

How do we fix it? I thought I read a thread that suggested overtightening as a possible cause for noises. I will have a mechanic friend check the torque of the nuts and see if this is the cause and possible solution.

Bump!
This is happening to my '02 Max with the Tein SS coilovers...
It's coming from the back!
Any more updates on this?

try to tighten down all 6 of the nuts for the rear suspension in your trunk, that fixed the problem for me.

well i believe a 14mm (i think...) long reach socket and a matching rachet wrench will do the the trick. you might also need an extender rod for the socket/wrench.

yes a 14mm is necessary...and a deep socket for the center nut (the one on top of the strut)

btw, I tried this awhile back, and it didn't work for me...I still get the creaking...argh...I even pulled apart the suspension to see what is wrong...nothings wrong as far as I can tell...!!

it seems like a few people in this thread have REAR creaking noises....anybody else? I'm wondering if this is common..post up your suspension setup as well

EastSideMaxima - do the tein SS coilovers require you to reuse your stock spring hats?

Just the other day I started to get a creaking noise from my rear passenger side. I have S-techs with Illuminas set at 3.

dude...thats where i'm getting it from too! pass rear...under what conditions can you hear it?

with me, you can roll in 1st gear and drag the car...and as the car bucks back n forth...you can hear it the loudest...then when you drive at 40mph and hit small bumps on the road, you can also hear it squeak...etc

I hear it whenever the suspension is active. While I am driving on a smooth road without bumps, there is no noise. The harder the suspension is used the louder the noise.

i went out and tried this earlier...i can't torque the center nuts (the ones on the strut hats)...they seem to twist along with the piston when I try to ratchet it

as for the side nuts...they were all pretty tight...I torqued them at 20-25lbs (according to the FSM)..actually I didn't even do anything...cuz when I went to tighten them, they were already at the specified torque...

Ephraim - how tight did you go?

I get the same creaking sound from the rear passenger suspension with H-Techs and Illuminas...but only when it's cold...haven't been able to figure it out

can you hear it in the parking lot, low RPMs, when you throttle and buck the car?

Hey man
I am not too sure... cuz I had this shop do the install for me...
I do remember that they ended up using some stock parts though...
