How often do you break brand new axels?

Ok well i just did a dek and 5 speed swap on my 95. Well was about to get my first race off (AT the track Of course) . I have a idel problem due to dek swap and can only hold it steady at 3700 rpms due to it ideling so high! I have a spec stage 3 clutch and only a budget y pipe for mods. Well a little tune too. I have brand new axels witch I bought from Napa with less than 50 miles on them. So I went to burn my tires off slightly Street tires (nitto neo Gens) Well I went to lauch at about 3800 rpms and it hook but some as i let out on the clutch well it broke! I have such low power im really surprized it broke. I ran over 340lb of torque through my 3rd gen axels and never had a problem. Do you think I got a bad axels heres the pic.

I'd say you might have, coming from Napa. I have stock axles, and have launched from near redline on slicks numerous times at the track with no problems. If I ever break an axle, I'll be getting Raxles... *hint*

I am pretty sure the shaft part of an Raxle is exactly the same as any other axle, they only use upgraded joints and boots/grease. He broke the shaft, so an raxle would be no different.

That being said, I have a passenger side raxle, and an autozone driver side, and both held up fine on slicks with 5000+ rpm launches. I broke my differential a few weeks ago, but the axles are fine.

Could be the shaft is the same, I don't really know. I somehow thought they weren't but can't remember where I got that info from so you guys might very well be right.

I have seen an OEM one snap though, and it was pretty obvious it was a defect (pocketing, non-uniform cross section, etc).

The shafts are the same between raxles and any other axle. Probably just a previously damaged core or an axle that just had a manufacturing defect. It certainly wasn't your power that broke it.

I've snapped a raxle myself. Marty even told me that raxles aren't intended for drag racing.
