Anybody know anything about "Clutch Shutter"
I have owned my '00 Maxima since 17000 miles. Four months ago (71000 miles) I have a tranny noise and I bring it to a local tranny shop. They get the whole thing apart, tell me that a piece broke off inside and destroyed all the internal parts of the tranny. While in there, they tell me the clutch is done would have only lasted another week or two, tops. So I have them do the clutch replacement (flywheel resurfaced) and they replaced all internal parts. $2200 bill.
Now, at 78000, I have a nasty clutch shutter that has gotten worse over last month. During take off, I try to put the car in first gear and the entire engine block shutters and shakes until it finally catches. (requires more gas than usual take off).
The local tranny guy tells me that it is clutch shutter and because it is a "driverability" thing, he can't stand behind any of it. He claims my driving style did it, and thats that. Thats pretty insane considering that I drove the car around for 54000 miles on the first clutch without "shuttering" it. I had two manual cars before this one that I never caused clutch shutter. And I definetly didnt cause clutch shutter on this car after only 7000 miles and 4 months later.
Any ideas on this? Is it possible that the parts they used were defective, or that they resurfaced the flywheel improperly ?

Sounds like a lazy @ss mech who doesn't want any work... every car i've owned prior to my max were 5sp and I've never heard of a "clutch shutter"... I did however have a problem that sounds similar with my 99 Integra R... Turned out to be a clutch plate issue...
Dunno if it helps. but I say find a new tranny mech..

Onomatopeia is the greatest thing in the world... It allows us to spell things in the English writing language how they sound... When I say YOUR "shudder" i'm saying the same thing, but I pronounce Double D's as a T. so in turn I get shutter. does it really matter as the message is being relayed as a "weird studdering sound coming from the clutch"?

Maybe they didn't do a good job resurfacing the flywheel. That'd be my best guess.
