I haven't been here for a while so my memory fails me? Which companies have good ECU upgrades and what was the company that sucked? I know, I know......... .....but I can't remember and I can't find anything. Help me out.

Just forget about ECU and get yourself the GReddy e-Manage Ultimate piggyback. Without a doubt, it is better, safer, and more cost effective than JWT so why bother. Plus you have 3 different maps and can reprogram infinite-many times

Yes people have it working on 99 ... but still don't bother with it.

 

I'm about to google it, but tell me more about the GReddy, this is new to me. Is this a new thing?

 

Also, is JET any good? I'm thinking about buying one for my 95 GLE that came out of a 97 GLE. Both cars are auto.

 

JET is garbage and actually provides losses in some parts of the powerband.

GReddy's e-Manage Ultimate has been out for a while, but it wasn't fully compatible with the Maxima until very recently. It will provide more gains than any ECU since it can be fine tuned versus generic mapped.

With EU, you can remove the rev limiter, remove the speed limiter (If you have a GXE), advance/retard timing, adjust A/F, adjust fuel injectors individually (kinda extreme), and can datalog information.

 

go piggy back with Greddy Emanage Ultimate...way better than formentioned ECUs

Do you think it's worth it to get the E-manage if my only mods are CAI, Y-pipe, Highflow Cat, and Catback??? I don't plan on doing anything else to the car besides keep up on the maintenence but if the E-manage will make a noticeable difference and maybe improve Gas Mileage it may be a good investment...

Also is this something you can tune yourself, or does it need to be tuned on a dyno??

YES IT IS WORTH IT! You get more than 15 ponies across the entire band if done right. On top of that it could improve gas mileage if you drop in a wideband O2 sensor because the computer could more accurately achieve stoich.

I have read threads of people complaining that they have to throw their stock ECU in just to pass emissions. e-Manage Ultimate will provide more gains than JWT so it is even more noticable.

You could butt dyno and tune A/F and Timing on the street, but a dyno will yield a few more ponies.
EX: ... Advance timing until you knock right? All fine and dandy, but people forget that advancing timing passed a certain limit actually hurts. THEN AGAIN you could just advance timing across the band the same amount as JWT and be safe. There is a way to recieve definite gains by street tuning, but a dyno will yield better results

 

now that the new firmware is out is a very powerful tool...even with light mods u can advance ur timing and get pretty good gains jsut form that.....I might get one in a year or so...but....also depending how u set up u can pass emissions...it all depends on the set up.....FYI stock ECU remains and i think u can set up multiple maps so u can have ur fun setup and a few buttons later stock

 

Stock ECU does remain and you can setup 3 maps. In addition, you can backup your maps onto a computer. So technically you can have infinite maps so long as you keep restoring the settings. Most people don't need more than 2 though. They way I see it:
1: Stock
2: Going ***** 2 the walls
3: Rev-limiter set to 3.5K so I can bounce of it

EU is about the same as a new JWT upgrade....but u get to choose ur settings instead of predetermined JWT settings which have been known to be a lil to lean

 

Sorry if this is a stupid question but i've never really found an answer to this. Is the emanage easy to use or do you really have to know what your doing to be able to tune?

 

my guess is that you probably have to know how to tune it...there won't be a 'GO FAST' button on it!

 

It isn't a joke of an install. You will need to allocate a weekend of downtime. There is some wire cutting involved. Getting the harnesses makes life easier. Reading the general tuning guide in the All-Motor forum should help.
