Aftermarket key fob

I know that we can buy OEM or OEM-spec key fobs, but I don't like the thin rubber buttons. They wear through and have a very soft feel. I have to hit the button two or three times to lock the car.

Is there a hard button aftermarket remote key fob that we can use - and hopefully still has all of the buttons?

Not that I know of. You can buy the OEM ones on Ebay. There's plenty of sellers on there that have these brand new or in great condition used. Just make sure you get the ones that are matched for your car--the FCC and Nissan part number. I have bought some and they work great..like brand new.

You can also pry your remote apart and try to clean the corrosion off the buttons on the circuit board themselves, as well as any dirt/dust/grime that got between the outside of the rubber and the plastic housing.

Also, replace your battery. Hitting the button that many times to unlock etc, is a sign of a weak battery.

mine, the case was loose. I've been rolling with this small strand of nylon rope around mine. I tightened the rope up TIGHT and now the remote works like new. wierd huh?

btw, usually our cars will re-lock on their own if you unlock the car and don't open the door. nice security feature imo.

I had another completely unrelated problem, (starter died and the battery was pretty much dead), but before the car actually showed the problem, I noticed that it would take forever and a day for my car to unlock - it would take multiple presses of my remote buttons. After replacing those parts, I've had no problem.

I'm guessing that the battery that you're referring to is the one in the remote, but I've noticed a significant difference since I changed my car battery - not only does my remote work on the first time, but it seems to work from farther away. (It's weird - I could get the car to lock from my second story apartment, but I couldn't get it to do that when I'm like five cars away in the store parking lot. Now it seems to be working a lot better.)

I purchased 2... I only had one to start with (the ring broke in 2 places) and 2 keys. They aren't hard to program, and I got the instructions on the .org. took me about 5 minutes to program both.

either a button that sticks on the remote control or an ECM setting that you can change at a dealership with consult 2.

That's the same line I got from my dealer. I finally stopped in for service one day and he gave me another remote... That didn't match the FCC ID on mine... I ended up selling it, which basically paid for the second remote I had already bought.

My parent's Nissan Quest does this... The car will be running, you get into it and close the door, and all the locks lock themselves, all by themselves. The dealer never could figure out what was wrong with it, and the Quest still does it from time to time...

Have you tried reprogramming it again? Maybe, try reprogramming with a newer remote with the exact FCC ID and remote number. This may help.

Since we're on the subject and I can't start a new thread...

My 2000 didn't come with a remote, just one aftermarket key. Can I assume the car is already set up for this, and will the ones on Ebay work on my car?

^ You'd need to have the VIN checked at the dealer to get the right part number for your remote. The FCC ID's must match...

well the transponder chip is part of the nissan security system. there is also a chip inside the car. if u try and start the car without the transponder, IT WONT START simply put.

Aftermarket...meaning not from Nissan. They probably got it from a locksmith, like I had to do recently since they wanted $125 at the stealer.
