Disabling Daytime Running Light Feature
Disabling Daytime Running Light Feature
Just like the tread says I'm trying to find a way to disable my daytime running lights....is this even possible with a 5th gen Maxima?.....if anyone has experience with this please shed some light on this issue

Manufacturers are legislated to have DRL installed and I think the intention is that the lights are to be running at all times (safety) but the laws surrounding the matter are iffy, so I wouldn't expect any ticket if they're not on..
as to how to disable them.. not sure..

Theres fuses in your engine bay. Our cars are very different from US cars with our DRL's. Or you can unplug the day harness from the day running control unit found beside the washer bottle.
But why would you want to take it out? It is law to have these, yes cops won't do crap about it however you get in an accident and you could get screwed as it is part of safety regulations. Key word though is Could!..In my old lude a few years back returning home from DarkNights I got nailed with a nice $300 ticket for not having it (fought it and got off but still a pain). If anything re-wire to your fogs if those are the OEM ones you still have in your sig.

forget about the fuse thing.... it never worked... at lease for me...
but one thing u can do is blown one your your high beam, then DRL will disable by it self.... if u have a 5 gen then it's what i have, i think that's the only way.... i asked here long time ago but no one can get me an answer... DO NOT REMOVE the headlight fuse next to your batt, DRL will make 100% curren flow to the other side... but i am thinking the hand break thing... if somehow i can make that red handbreak light on all the time, then DRL will not even come on!

I got the fix from member Progress, it is simply disabled by pulling out the "DTRL" fuse from the cabin's fusebox. I needed to disable this feature to ensure that my HIDs were not constantly "ON"...since the power for my kit comes directly from the OEM harness, with the DRL feature there was always current (even if minimal) flowing through the harness and thus constantly powering the HID kit. Now that this fuse is pulled, the HID kit doesnt power up until I turn the selector to the 2nd notch on the steering wheel mounted stick...since no current is flowing through the harness until the 2nd notch is reached......hope this can be helpful to someone else!

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but do the high beams and everything else still work normally after disabling the DRL's by removing the fuse? I ask because the wiring diagrams in the service manual show that the high beam relays are connected only to the Daytime Light Control Unit.
And before anyone jumps all over me, I have a Canadian purchased Maxima in the US.

if thats what the circuit diagrams say then by disabling DRLs then I would assume you also disable your highbeams....you should just go to your in-cabin fusebox and pull out the DTRL fuse and then check to see if your highbeams work...its like a 1 minute job and you'll know the answer to your question.
From the service manual it looks like it might be #28 or #21, but the diagram on the fuse panel cover say #28 is "Air Cond" and #21 is "Start Signal". #21 seems to be also used for the clutch interlock, so I guess it's #28.

In my car, there is a fuse in the cabin that reads "DTRL." It might read "DRL." The only other fuses to check would be in the engine bay. Is your car from Canada?
Ok, well #28 definitely turns off the DRL's. Unfortunately it also turns off the whole automatic climate control system, so that's out.
I guess I either need to see how the parking brake is connected to the Daytime Light Control Unit, or find the unit and cut the wire going to terminal 3.
