Real Quick ? about Catback Installation

im fully aware that im going to have to heat my bolts to remove the stock catback. the bolts are rusted from 105000 miles of PA weather, driven in the snow too.

i have a little blow torch at my house, im wondering if that will heat the bolts enough to remove them or if im going to need a mechanic's help.

This is basically what i have http://www.bernzomatic.com/bernzomat...s/UL100_sm.jpg
thanks for the help!

Hacksaw FTW. Just cut everything off that your replacing except the cat. conv. bolts. The possibility of getting them off is nearly impossible. I would say take it to a shop get them to replace the bolts that connect to the cat. conv. runs you about $20 if that. And saves you tons of hassle. Then just cut the rest of the exhaust back off.

well i HAVE TO be able to keep the stock catback. in case i part it out/my dad wants it back to stock. so hacking is not exactly an option.

are there any rust remover products or stuff made just for this kinda problem? ive been spraying wd40 just about every other night to try and get the rusty bolts a little better.

also the torch i have is just a nozzle connected to a tiny propane tank. will that be able to get hot enough? if not im hoping a mechanic would heat them for me for less than 20 bucks.

im sure an exhaust shop will take it off for you for around 40 bucks. no hacking, no torching. a good ole breaker bar + WD40 works wonders.

It took me forever to get the muffler bolts off and in the process I ruined the flange. Save yourself the hassle and bring it to a shop. Just be careful not to bring it to an expensive shop. I brought it to muffler man down here in FL to have the b-pipe to cat bolts replaced and it took them 20 minutes to do from the time I pulled my car into the parking lot to the time I pulled out. They torched them right off and replaced them with new bolts but they charged me $50.

You can try PB blaster or liquid wrench but it didn't help in my case. They were just too rusted. They looked more like rusty nubs than bolts.

I just love the way Cali people tell everyone else in the U.S. that a little elbow grease (or anything short of thermo-nuclear weaponry) is all that's needed to get a bolt off I SWEAR sometimes you guys just need your own org...
