Calling all those using either a Walbro 255LPH or stock 4th gen fuel pump!

I just installed mine a couple of days ago. Just before returning home tonight, my car ('97 w/ 3.5 swap) began chugging, then running smooth, chugging, running smooth, etc. Just for the heck of it, I decided to fill up my tank (it still registered 1/4 tank when I filled it up). Just after filling it up, it ran perfectly smooth again (and still does).

HERE'S THE MAIN QUESTION:

Is the filter element that attaches to the fuel pump itself (at the pump's primary fuel inlet with a metal retaining clip) supposed to be installed so that it points UP (toward the fuel's surface) or DOWN (toward the bottom of the tank)? I installed mine with the filter pointing up and I think, as a result, the filter may be partially exposed to air in the tank as the fuel level falls (resulting in an intake mixture of both fuel and air). Anyone? Thanks.

sorry i dont have this pump myself... but what you say makes sense and does explain why it runs fine with a full tank, and c00k00 as the gas goes down. flip the element around and see if it still does it. good luck

I'm 200% sure it should be pointed down.

200% sure, huh? I'd better believe it, then. I'll flip it ASAP. Thx.
