Such thing as durable suspension???

Hey guys, I currently have AGX/Sprints, I have a blown front left strut and is looking for new suspension. This car is driven on a track that is fairly tight and rough pavement. Is there even such thing as durable suspension???

I have been thinking of Konis with the best handling spring set up there is or coilovers. Does anyone know if coilovers can take more of a beating or is it worth the extra despite rebuilds??? Does strut/spring setup even compare to coilovers?

Chris

Koni's are definately a better shock. But i would assume considering the stiffer springs, one piece components, and very popular for track purposes that coilovers are going to be a lot more durable. I have ksports and they don't even compare to a spring/strut combo. Much stiffer and even smoother in some cases..

no warranty against bottoming out the track.

what are you using for bumpstops? how often do you bottom out the suspension, and how hard?

Go with 3rd gen Koni reds up front, 4th gen Koni yellows out back with Ground Control coilovers. If you want to get low out back get B14/B15/P11 rear adjustable (agx, koni, etc.) shocks for some added travel.

KYB will honor the warranty if you tell them your AGX's were paired with H&R's for daily driving

If you're looking for something you can just slap in and forget about, Konis are your only option, especially if you have more than a moderate drop. Konis with Ground Control sleeved springs (they're not technically coilovers) would be a great combination -- definitely one of the best you can get without totally breaking the bank. The only disadvantage is that you can't adjust ride height without affecting suspension travel with that combo. But if you're looking for something durable, this is as good as it will get.

Full coilovers always give you the best handling with a decent ride, but as you mentioned, they will occasionally need to be rebuilt. If you're driving on a lot of rough roads, figure on one to two rebuilds/damper replacements a year (at $75-$150 each, depending on the manufacturer) to be safe.

If you want a good, reliable coilover kit, you need Progress or Ksport. Both companies make good stuff and have great customer service and short turnaround times. Progress has better dampers that are slightly more durable and cost half as much to rebuild; Ksport is a little behind in those departments but gives you WAY better adjustability -- you can change height without affecting suspension travel, and you can add preload to your springs to corner-weight your car and fine-tune your handling.

Any other company (Tein, D2, JIC) will be more expensive and/or difficult to get rebuilds on than Progress or Ksport.
