bees in the can sound from y pipe

What exactly is the "bees in the can" sound? Do you hear it inside the car when driving? Reason I ask is I just installed a budget y pipe and now I have this vibration sound that sounds like bees in the can that I hear coming from the console area(below radio) and it sounds like it is inside the car.

My car is a 97 gle with the sliding storage area under the radio. I took the pens and crap out of it and held it tight and this seemed to muffle the vibration sound some.

What do you guys think?

Thx, Fro

who put the Y-pipe on? and confirm all the bolts are tight.

your ears might be diffrent from my ears or anyone elses for that matter.

the bees in a can should be more noticeable during rev-ing. so if you rev the car up and your noise gets louder i think its bees in a can. if not then maybe its an interior rattle.

personally i got the warpspeed y. i bought one for my friend as well. we both don't have no noise coming from the y pipe. sounds stock minus the stock muffler sounds a bit more aggressive. no problems here. and only bees in can sound i get is from the stock resonator. i had my car on the lift, and had someone rev it. and sure enought the sound came from inside the stock resonator for some reason. but this only happen after i put a maganflow muffler on for a deeper tone. with the stock muffler i had no noise what so ever.

I hope you used the OEM gaskets. If not I would suggest using them. That is 99% of the problem when it comes to bees in a can.

"Bees in a can" literally sounds like what it's name suggests. It doesn't sound like interior panels rattling or anything like that. In my case, it's very faint and hard to hear except with the windows down going through town (because of the echoes), it's only from ~1000 to 1500 that it will do it and only cruising. It's odd and very hard to describe, and it's also something most people will never pick up on except you because you'll be the one to hear it all the time.
