So I had to have my greddy replaced with a 5th gen muffler. Love the muffler itself, brand new and the tips look great. Problem is that it has to sit really low because the bumper cutout. Shop guy said it will look really bad to cut the bumper so I'm tryin to think of things to do. I might put the greddy on after inspection but I know I'll get more grief from the po po. What can I do to the bumper? Can it be rolled or what's the best way to go about trimming it to fit the muffler up higher? I'll post some pics tomorrow.

 

heat gun carefully. put the muffler in place and let it cool to the new shape. heat from the rear.

 

So you think that heating it will allow me to bend it? Any experience with that?

 

A friend has a bodyshop. they do it all of the time. just have to be patient. I personally have not done it. Not sure how much you have to move it but if it isnt too much it should work. heat from the rear as not to cook the paint. keep the heat moving to prevent bubbling or overheating.

 

when you say heat from the back, you're talking behind the bumper right? I'll post pics later I hope. I need to move the two edges of the oval hole. The dual tip needs to go up. I dont need to move it that much but I hate how it looks now and I'll be happy if it goes up at least part way into the stock hole.

 

yeah i mean behind the bumper. again make sure to keep that heat gun moving. do not hold it steady in one spot. doesnt take that much to make it flexible and i have seen them take out bends and kinks that way.

 

Sounds good. I appreciate the help. I'll have to test it out. Any idea what setting of heat your friend uses? I don't want to go too hot.

 

now that i am not sure. If you arent doing this until next week i can ask when the shop is open on Tues. I dont think there is a setting though. I know fo rmy heat gun there is high and low. I think you pretty much put it on high and increase the space between the gun and the bumper. usually takes about 10 min of heating to become workable. yours may be longer since i would assume you need to move it more. too bad you dont have a junk bumper laying around to practice on.

This is why i never did this. I am about to replace my muffler due to wear and i am probably just going with a stock 4th gen muffler.

Yeah def. having a lot of issues now a days haha. But the car runs, which is important. This stuff is just small issues. This is just cause the 5th muffler on my car looks like **** right now lol. I figure if I can get that bumper bent just enough the shop can raise the muffler just enough to look right. No more big gap. You'll understand when I get the pics up haha.

 

Dremel bumper.. Have hangers re-welded to 4th Gen (like) specs. Done..

 

The guy at the shop said that cutting the bumper was a bad idea. He said he's seen a lot of cut bumpers and they look like ****. If I dremel those corners of the oval, is it hollow? Do I need to cut a lot more off? Is that really better than bending the bumper? I would like as many thoughts as possible on this one.

I care more about making it look clean. Yeah I know how to dremel and sand but I'm concerned about the paint after dremeling and if I'm going to have hollow spots afterward. Nobody has answered that. That unknown?

 

Someone on here, possibly a few used the method forementioned.. Maybe one of them will grace this thread with some pics.
