My mechanic quoted me HIGH to do RMS and SS Clutch line
I need help real quick. My mechanic quoted me an ADDITIONAL 400+ bucks to do the RMS because he said he has to take off the upper oil pan and replace the gaskets. What he is saying is true, but why he said that is 2+ hours of labor I have no clue. Can someone please explain if this is even REMOTELY close to acceptable.
He also is charging $67 to just throw on a stainless steel clutch line that I bought from the forum (replaces hard and rubber line). He was claiming it was hard to reach the slave cylinder so it would take an hour ... I called BS on him cause he is dropping the transmission so it should be VERY easy to reach.
Please people comment on this and get me some arguements to pull down the labor on the RMS.

man, some of those things you can do yourself... 400$ for 2 hours of labour sounds expensive. Most of the shops around here are charging 80+/- for labour. That must include parts, but even that seems high.
the clutch line.... 1/2 hour job for the do it yourselfer.

well he's def. a good mechanic if he noticed that to do the rms the right way you have to drop the oil pan, but those prices seem a little high, I recently did a 5-speed conversion on a kids car and ended up adding on $150 for the leaking rms, so $400 is a little on the high side. Stainless line is bs, he has to unbolt the slave cylinder already, shouldn't take more than 10 minutes extra time.
