Summer Project 97 SE

So heres the situation. I have $5000 saved for upgrades for my Maxima this summer. She currently has 230,000 Km on her hasn't had a transmission rebuild or even problem but I'm sure one is due in the near future. After this winter its going to be my summer project car so no more winters . My question is, do you think that it would be better to do the 3.5 swap or Turbo/SC the beast? I'm not sure $5000 will cover everything I need for the turbo / SC. Ive looked at the sticky about doing the 3.5 swap and it says ill spend about $3000 doing it, so are there things that I should upgraded on the 3.5 engine before I throw it in with the other $1600 or should I upgraded my suspension, brakes all that stuff first? 3.5 or Turbo/SC that is the question lol. All opinions are welcome I need all the info I can get. (Maxima currently has CE y-pipe , Greddy SP2 cat-back, and Injen CAI.)

Thanks,
Jeff

I would go with the suspension and then the 3.5 swap... then maybe do a retro T/C on that, down the road of course. So yeah do the suspension and wheel set up and then the 3.5 swap. Just my .02

please dont spend that much on struts/springs or coilovers! thats rediculous if you ask me, even if you have the money! you can get a really good strut/spring set up for at most $600. You can get the swap done(if you are doing it yourself for anywhere between $1200 I think was the lowest I saw and i'd say 2g's) So for $3500 you can do suspension and motor swap. save the other $1500 for when something breaks. If it were me, I would not spend it all. I just did a de-k swap for like $1100 I think, and spent another $700 fixing my tranny and getting a new axle. Spend your money wisely!

With an extra $5000 lying around, I would consider selling the max and buying something else. But assuming, you're keeping the maxima:

Suspension upgrade is less than $1000 (coilovers (or GC/Koni), strut bars, and rear sway bar).

VQ35 swap is less than $1200 if you do it yourself. Use the rest for a transmission rebuild with Quaife LSD (rare gem is on its last production run, check group deal forum).
