My Tranny feeling kind of funny
My Tranny feeling kind of funny
I would just drive my car once in a while normal driving i have noticed my tranny(Automatic) would shift fast in to first but then sometimes my tranny would jerk shifting in to second driving around for a while to see whats going on here so my car would also at sometimes would shift in to first but then shift in to second a little late so i could feel my car is not performing right. I also looked at the dipstick to see where the fluid was at the add mark and i did what the Nissan manual told me to do. I went to the dealership so i could buy Nissan ATF and i went ahead and put about 1/2 of the bottle and the fluid is right where it should be now and took the car for the drive and the car once again shift smooth as butter so now my concern is since i bought the car nothing has been done to it forcept oil changes and 1 caliper has been replaced and replacing the brake pads and air filter and i am wondering if there could have been any kind of damage to the car and i have been pushing the car sometime on the highways at 80+MPH.
P.S.
The tranny never been flushed or had any kind of service so i am looking in to that know.

I have been keeping track of the fluid and the tranny since i had topped it off but heres the weird part i have checked the car on a flat surface and i warmed the car up for 5 minutes then ran the gear selector in all the gears and back into park then checked it's okay. The next day I did the same thing and I wanted to check where the fluid was this time then I looked at the dipstick then i saw it below at the add mark and I know I added it but then the dipstick showing that i have to add more. The next day i did the same thing but this time the gear selector in D then the fluid shows that it's back at it's level so i had it back into park same results. The next day i had did the same 5 min warm up then moved the gear in all ranges then the fluid was at the add mark (know i am confused)then i drove the car at normal speeds then parked it back looked at it now the marks says its' okay. The final day I did the same 5 min warm up then moved the gears in all ranges then back in P then looked at the dipstick and it was at the add mark now i wanted to drive it then at normal speeds then I Parked it checked it again then it was saying it was add . someone please help i don't want to f up the tranny.
P.S IF THE MANUAL SAYS TO WARM IT UP TO FIVE MINUTES THEN MOVE THE GEAR SELECTOR BACK INTO PARKED WOULD THIS BE CONSIDERED A PROPER READING. OR I HAVE TO DRIVE AND CHECK THE FLUID IN DRIVE.
The reading of the dipstick when the car is off. HOT and COLD is showing that it's OVERFILLED IS THIS THE PROPER READING .
THANKS......

be careful. i recently went through the same thing. i went and changed filter/gasket and had it flushed. worked great for one day, the next day my tranny fluid dumped out in the parking lot at work. well, it was night when i left so i did not see the fluid. the next day whe i got to work is when i saw it. later that day it started jerking really hard into gears and my CEL came on. front seal went out and started slipping. so i went to a junkyard and got a used one, replaced all the seals, fresh filter/gasket and been fine every since.
anyone with any idea of which method to follow in order to not to flood the tranny as of if i should just give the car the 5 min warm up then move the gear selector in all gears then back in Park then check the dipstick or should i just check the fluid in drive and drive around. theres's more quetions like this in the 1 and 4 post.
I just found the owners a manual that the proper way is to check the when these three things have been met check in the HOT range
1. Warm the car up at normal operating temps thats 5 min warm-up.
2. Drive the car for 5 min at normal speeds.
3. The car on a flat surface then the car in Park check the HOT range then add to the charging pipe if neccesary
The ower manual also says this.
1.warm the car to operating temps 5 min warm-up
2. move the gear selector from park to all the gear ranges then back into park
3.Add to the charging pipe if it's neccessary.
The reason for this is i just asked a couple of guys at Nissan they had diffrent views of how to add the tranny fluid .kind of scary no wonder some people get worried about ther trannies getting serviced at the dealership

To check the fluid level, I usually drive the car for ~5 minutes with a combination of city and highway driving. The tranny should have shifted to all gears that way, and the 5-minute drive should be just enough to bring the car to normal operating temp. Check the level with the car running and parking on level ground. You would want the level slightly below FULL of the HOT range. It is important not to overfill the tranny.
yeah nissan trannys arent the best thats for sure but hey better then my old dodge neon97 with 160KM on it when reverse would not kick in and in order to get to 3rd gear ( auto) u had to let the gas go let it shift and hit it again, haha
keep changing your tranny fluid, its VERY important TRUST THE ORG

I am going to get a flush and refill if that's good considering that there has been nothing done to my tranny. I also have mentioned that my tranny was low on the fluid and then I just topped it off finnaly i got it right but when you drive it it shows that it has been overfilled over the hot mark that's when I am driving. Is that okay.
On an old Bonevile that I had with a leaking transmission every time the oil level went down past a certain trashhold there was a significant decrease in performance untill you could not go past 35MPH. Once the oil level is brought back to the correct level the tranny went back to normal operation. Eventually the seal was replaced and I had no problem with the tranny for the next 30K, after which I wrecked the car.
