Maxima quit running, fuel pump/filter question
Maxima quit running, fuel pump/filter question
As I was about to back out of my driveway in my 98 maxima se it stalled as it was apparently out of gas. Now the problem I am having is that it won't restart even after adding a good amount to the tank as well as gas line antifreeze. Im assuming I got something clogged in the filter, but I can't seem to get the lines off. Also, does the fuel pump on these cars make any noise when you move the key to the on position to prime the pump?
makes a little noise. you have to twist and pull to get the lines off. it also helps to use a flathead to break the seal of the line on the filter first. if gas comes out when you get the filter off, chances are the fuel pump is still good.
just got the top line off the filter, and gas came rushing out. Therefore I'm assuming the pump and filter are good, and at this point I don't know where else to look. Is there somewhere else up the line nearer to the fuel rails that might be clogged somehow, or is my problem spark or air related?
what exactly is the car doing? does it kick over at all? pull out some of the plugs and check for carbon or fouling. Recently did one that had so much carbon, the valves were stuck open adn there was no compression to kick over. Any popping while you try to start it?
it cranks and cranks but acts as if it's not getting fuel. It makes no attempt to catch if you will, just cranks and cranks. No popping, nothing out of the ordinary when cranking. I'll pull some plugs tomorrow and see how they look. Thanks for the help so far
I'm starting to think it may be the fuel pump, i read that it should have 43psi of pressure but the line i pulled off certainly didn't seem to have that kind of pressure, although gas was coming out. You say the fuel pumps are easy to change on maximas, however is it in the tank and or will i need to drop it in order to replace it?
