Overdrive Light When Starting

I noticed that the overdrive light will come on when it starts. When it doesn't start the overdrive light is off.

Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.

Your going to have to elaborate on this... Not sure, but I would think that it will pop on right when you start the car to check OD but then shut off until you press your "OD off" button.

If I try to start my car the light is off. When the light is on and I turn the key it is more likely to start.

Cold starts I always have to turn the key over more than twice.

OD light always comes on when you start the car. Should light up for a second then shut off. If it's blinking then you have problem.

Light on = start
Light off after key is turned = no start

If I said the car started and the light went off I wouldn't be posting something so stupid.

I said that the light will come on before the car starts. If I turn the key and the light doesn't come on then the car will not start. It's as if the car knows when it will start and when it won't.

I've got two Gen 4 Nissans. My first was a '96 and our second was a '99. Both are GLE's - it's fun to see the differences, ... sometimes. Anyway, to my question: My '96 maxima starts up with overdrive in the OFF position automatically (orange light on) without me pushing any button, but my '99 Maxima starts up with the overdrive in the ON position automatically. Of course, I could push the 'button' immediately after startup in the '99 so that the overdrive is OFF ... which is now routine, but I'd like to have my '99 car start up with the overdrive in the OFF position - without me pushing the button - just like my '96!!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Any thoughts out there?? How can I make this happen?

Thanks, .....
