Cars misfiring, but no cel?

My car is misfiring erratically and there are no codes.It doesn't misfire constantly just once and a while. And when you floor it you hit a dead spot and then the power kicks in again. I checked it anyway and i got 0745, which is a control solenoid for the trans and couldn't have anything to do with a misfire??........so what do you guys think it could be ignition coil on its way out? or maybe a injector? Any suggestions will help.

my car was misfiring consistantly for a while with no CEL too. turned out to be coils (damn 99's). if you have some spair time, ide check the plugs. see which ones are covered in gas and whatnot. that way you at least narrowed it down to the cylinder(s).

Yeah I am going to replace all my rear ones because they have never been replaced 173,000 miles

95's arent known for coil problems so perhaps you should change them once you know for sure that is the problem. when is the last time you changed the plugs? gapped them properly? ran a system cleaner? cleaned the usual (TB and IAC Valve)? Are you sure it is a misfire?

change your plugs or coils? as 2damizzax said, 95s werent known for coil problems. and coils are supposed to last for the life of the car (but as some of us know too well, thats not always the case.) i hope you werent talking about plugs, because 173,000 on plugs is not good. if thats the case, change those plugs ASAP.

My plugs are brand new. I changed them once it started to misfire to make sure that wasn't it.

don't doubt that it is a misfire even though its a 95. I had this occasional misfire and when the car gets heated and WOT feels like complete **** until like 5k rpm. At idle it would dip down once in awhile.
Well i bought new coils for 300 and the problem was fixed. I sold these coils about a week ago and put the old coils back in, its definently one of the packs. I got some coilpacks from a junkyard which appeared to have been replaced, they looked fairly new, like the new ones i used to have.
I have one rear and one front (From the yard). I was replacing them one at a time but i think it was my middle front coilpack since i havent had a misfire today and i replaced it with the new coil earlier today.

thats my story...if i dont use the rear coilpack from the junkyard you can buy it from me (for cheap) and see if maybe one of your rears is out. i'll be trying to scope out more next time i go to the yard, possibly tomorrow.

Im having the same exact problem... my car misfires when Im at a stop light,It's not that bad but u can feel it, If I floor it my car also seems to loose some power for a sec or two then it will continue accelerating... I changed the plugs and that didn't help, also changed my fuel filter,and cleaned my TB. That didnt help... so what should I do next replace the MAF or just get all new coils??

Should I just change the MAF since it's cheaper to replace than the coils and c what happends??

changing your oil is cheaper than changing coils. doesnt mean that is the problem. diagnose the problem first. then solve it.

BTW my car has 77,104 miles, is it normal for the coils to go out at this milage??

that was my way of saying "dont replace anything. figure out what is bad first. then replace it. dont just guess and keep your fingers crossed." if you suspect your MAF, go buy a can of MAF cleaner and clean it first. If you suspect a bad coil. unplg it while you think the car is misfiring and see if you feel a change in the idle. if unsure which coil it could be, do them 1 by 1. no it is not normal for them to go bad. as someone else psoted they are meant for the life of the car (but dont have to last that long). could be a dirty injector. could be a bad injector. but changing all 6 packs. then changing the MAF. then cahnging the ECTS, just to find out you needed some gummout regane would be a costly lesson.

The fact that the coils don't go bad is just plain retarded. I had all 3 front ones go bad. I never had to replace any rear ones yet thats why I am going to buy all 3 used of course for 40 bucks and take it from there. My plugs are brand new, most of my injectors are new(i'm not ruling them out) I just cleaned my iacv and maf, so I would say there fine. Coils first and then its just one thing at a time.

btw off the subject I just bought a 91 se-r and plan to put all my money into that (sr20ve with a shot of juice) and sell the max once fixed.

Thank you, When I first bought it I hated the color, Now 5 years later, Its one of my favorite parts about the car. The cardomain upload stinks. The original pic is so much better. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SPRING TO GET HER LOOKING GOOD AGAIN. this ice storm scratched my car up really badly. I had a huge chunk fall off and slide down the hood and it put a really nice scratch on it. DOH!

I have a 95 Maxima with 144K miles that had the same problem. Only happened when the engine was fully warmed up. Turned out to be the #3 cylinder coil. Probably opend up when warm. Replaced the coil and it runs like a top.....
