well a group of 4 of us went to the track tonight (me, adam, justin, and steve) and we got a bunch of runs in the 1st hour, but after that it got crowded...i got 7 runs in the first hour including time sitting on the side cooling off my engine

it was well over 90 degrees the entire night except at the very end i checked my temp reading and it said 92 (still over, but not well over)...the track was also visibly slick...everyone was spinning their tires way too much

i won my first 6 races and lost my 7th...very very close race though...the 7 second cars were running 9s and everyone was running horribly...i beat a lot of cars that i really shouldn't have and when i saw that i had to race them i figured i would have gotten killed

first race, i raced a pontiac trans am...i'm pretty sure those are only v8's and it had dual exhaust
...well i ran a 15.8 w/ a 2.532 60' and he ran a 17.2 w/ a 2.567 60' time...i was pretty stunned by this

alright, the next number of races aren't necessarily in order but i beat an older vette (last gen) only because he spun through first...his best time of the night was a 14.7

i also raced this little civic hatch twice and beat it by a lot both times (it hung in first gear though)

i raced a drag car and surprisingly beat it...this dodge drag car had at least 100 stickers on the side of it from holley to a huge dodge sticker...this guy was running 16s and 17s all night long

i then raced a caddilac sts w/ a passenger in it and beat it by .2 secs (i had a much better reaction time so i was accross the finish line a lot earlier)...i thought that would kill me...i've heard they are very fast

last race (my 1 loss) i raced a chevy impalla ss w/ an intake and exhaust...we were 100% dead even upto about 70mph and he started pulling...i don't know if i should call it pulling though because by the end of the 1/4 mile (about 20mph later) he hadn't even pulled 1/8th of a car length...i ended up losing by a little under .2 secs...i had a 2.529 60' while he had a 2.418...o well, 7 runs is pretty good...then we chilled in the stands and saw 3 clutches/transmissions get messed up and we got to see some SUVs racing

and apparently while i was racing one of the times, the announcer commented that he liked my "aero kit"...i didn't hear him though but i'm going to watch the tape my friend made tomorrow

Ha ha, that wasnt a trans am you raced, it was a fire chicken if it ran in the 17s.. Ya we all had a pretty sh1tty night. I think it was acutally in the 80's but pretty humid because it rained today. I even unbolted my exhaust from the strait pipe back and my best was only 15.9 It was loud as hell though so i guess it was worth it
My 60 foots for all 7 runs were in the 2.5's and one was almost 2.6 Thats AWFUL. NO ONE could get traction tonight except the guys with tubs and 15" mickeys. I wouldnt even torque brake and i would spin the tires for the first 60' and im auto.. It was all fun though..

Well I have had the car for two weeks now and I wanted a baseline run. I ran a total of 5 times, none of which the car ever got a chance to cool down! The tempature was a cool 90 degrees here in AZ!!

1st Run:
2.75 60'
15.98 @ 88mph

2nd Run:
2.64 60'
15.65 @ 88.9mph

3rd Run:
2.45 60'
15.57 @ 89.8mph

4th Run:
2.43 60'
15.54 @ 90.6mph <-- Best Run

5th Run:
2.48 60'
15.56 @ 89.7mph

Good job. You improved in each of your runs. Are you guys going to the track again if it cools down soon?

Sorry I missed it guys. Wish I could have gone to race the 5-speed.

I should have a friend with a GS400 next time we go.

Hopefully, Zach has his NOS and I have my catback by then.

I will go when I get a y-pipe, until then I don't feel there is any reason to beat up the car. The wheel hop I got was terrible and I thought I was going to break something.

I got a good baseline run, I really don't care about the ET. I am happy with the MPH, almost 91 mph with 90+ temp and 60% humidity. With the temp coming down to 70 degrees and really letting the car completely cool down (temp gauge on C when I pull up to line) I think the car could run close to 92-93 mph.

I think one thing that would definately make the car faster is borrowing someones 15" 4th gen. wheels! The 17"s weigh close to 55lbs each, at least I think thats what I heard.

The heat was not killing your e.t and mph as much as the way you are launching.

Sounds like I am preaching but try taching up to 4k rpm and walking out the clutch. You will get NO wheel hop once you get used to it AND your 60' time will be 2.2-2.3 at worst. Your mph will improve at least 4-5 mph regardless of the heat! Also, it is not as bad for your car as that wheel hop is.

Try it!!!

My 60' was 2.4 and you think by reducing it to 2.2-.3 will improve my mph by 4-5mph?? I thought for a 00' 5pd 90.66mph was pretty good considering the conditions. I have been racing for years (close to 10yrs) and the heat DOES affect the car. I am not trying to argue but I know what I did wrong and how to correct it and the heat was a BIG factor.

Yes I know I can launch better, but I haven't seen too many stock 00-01' SE's run too much faster than 91 mph....

That GS will be in the 14's just under 100mph.

I'm in Florida and I agree completely that heat affects the run, times and mph. No doubt about it. I didn't mean to suggest otherwise.

I wasn't trying to offend you, all I was suggesting is that there seems to be a consensus on this board regarding the best way to launch - rev to 4k-5k and walk the clutch out as you give it gas.

I had the exact same problem with wheel hop and had a tough time getting anywhere under 2.4 60' times until I changed how I was launchinng.

As far as stock 5spds, in those conditions, I don't know what it should be - so I might be wrong about 4-5 mph (I was using your range of numbers as a comparison - not just your 90.66). But my stock 2k SE ran in the 94s.

Max_Gator,

I was not mad, but just annoyed at the conditions and my driving!

You may be correct, and the car may pull out a 93-94mph!! I would be happy as a pig in ****!!

How is the humidity in Florida right now? I used to live in Florida (Miami). BTW, I don't miss it!!!

I was not flaming you Max, so don't think I was angered! I am just frustrated because I had higher expectations for myself!! I thouht the car was good for 15.2 for sure....

Nice runs Zach. Strange about the SS though. My friend's stock 96 SS runs 14.7. It was against me 2 months ago. Pretty fast car.

well i'm sure they do, but i am about equal to a 5spd max now and 5spd max's lose by just a tiny bit in the 1/4 mile...this guy beat me by just a tiny bit in the 1/4 mile...the conditions weren't very good (track was very slick, nobody could get traction, and it was over 90 degrees the entire night)...the funny thing is that i went upto this guy after the race while we were both cooling our engines down and the first thing out of his mouth was "i thought those things were faster"...wtf? he has a corvette lt1 engine w/ intake and exhaust and he is saying he thought my car was faster?
