3 12" sealed vs 2 12" ported ?

Ok heres my situation i have an option of getting an jlw6v2 brand new from my old boss. Anyway heres the situation I currently have 2 12w6v2 ported in a custom box i made running off a jl 1000/1. Basically what i want to know is will there be a difference if any in spl ? If there is i think it will be very minimal and not worth it. Some one tell me wrong ? If it turns out the gain will be very minimal then i will just take some cash from my old boss instead.I would do 3 ported but.. i cant fit them :[ i had a hard enough time fitting 2 ported. For all the jl haters dont post in my thread about my **** dont tell me theres better subs out there for the money.I dont want to hear it so stick to the subject.

doubt it'd be worth the effort - would barely be louder as you'd be running less power to each sub..

don't do it

go for it. I prefer the sound of a sealed box myself.

Going sealed is great, but adding the extra sub and consuming that space is just not worth it to me.

Your also not going to notice That much difference in overall output.

yes...twice...once with 1 15" ported, and once with the same 15" sealed.

if you don't mind adding weight to the trunk, the 3 12's might have a more balanced sound. but 2 12's ported is all a maxima should handle IMO.

If you're planning on running the same amp, I would say No. If you're planning on buying another amp and strapping them, Yes. Even though you will have more cone area with three subs instead of two, you are not supplying the subs w/ additional power, but less. I have an 12"L7 in a 2.75 cu ported box powered by a 1500 Rockford @ 4ohms. I also have 2 12" Alpine type R's running off the same amp and same ohms/wattage, and you really can't tell a difference. But there are alot of variables to consider as well when making this decision. But if you're running the same amp, I would say save the trunk space. My suggestion, go to your local car audio store, if they have the set up, listen to one sub in it's own box, and listen to two subs(of comparable quality) in their own box powered by the SAME AMP. (Make sure the amp is receiving the same ohm load)

OK, so say i added a Jl 500/1, and keep the jl 300/4, and the jl 1000/1. Do you guys think the output will be greater with 3 sealed subs rather than the 2 ported. I would be running 2 off the 1000/1, and 1 off the 500/1. Even then I'm still thinking the gain might be minimal, and still may not be worth it so let me hear your opinion :]

In that case you may pickup quite a bit more output... but it all depends on the quality of the box, even then you're comparing sealed to ported in which case the spl will suffer more than likely, but the sq will increase.

Sell everything and get you a couple of DD's or BTL's and two Orion 2500 D's. Just kidding (I actually love JL too, just got too much responsibility now and can't afford them anymore) : ( Like Nismo said, it's going to way heavily on your box. I'm not sure how much trunk space you have either, but things might get tight. But with that combo, you'll be giving them sufficient power, even though they're going to be sealed. : ( Also, keep in mind, there's a difference b/w SPL and loudness. I've seen many people at competitions lose w/ two or even three subs to just one sub. Even though you have more speakers and more power, how well will the sound(waves) travel. Think about when you cuff your hands around your mouth to yell...., if you bring them in too close, the waves are trapped and will not travel very far b/c of limited space. Now in an SUV, the outcome of that setup would be different. But you're going to bang the h3ll out of your trunk though, so I say you only live once, go for it and tell us how it turns out.

The more the merrier right? Get one bigger amp to run all three.
