Kinetix SSV vs. Port and Polish

What's up guys I have a quick question about my intake manifold. I have a stock intake manifold off of my old 3.5 engine and I was wondering if I should just have it ported and polished or if I should buy the Kinetix manifold, the Kinetix cost $819 and I am sure that a Port and Polish on stock would be cheaper so what do you guys think???

I really dont think a stock 3.5 intake manifold that is ported would pick up 13 hp imo

Kinetix

P&P is not typically associated with the IM. E&H, yes, P&P belongs in the heads.

i don't know anything about the kinetix fwd manifold, but I believe their manifold for the 350z totally sucked ***** if I recall. If that is the case I wouldn't spend my money on it.

The FWD IM is no different. Especially for 819$. Altimas.net did some dynos on it but the resutls were inconclusive.

1.) They did not test the product fully., i.e stopped the dyno @ 6k.

2.) If they would have spent the time they spent on that POS and just made a FWD version of the Rev-up or even the 'normal' Z33, they would have had more success.

Case in point, don't buy that expensive shiny apparatus.

Here are the links which has the link to the dynos and all other pertinent information.

What about the Z33 IM, I hear those are supposed to be pretty good, how hard would it be to make one of those work???

Apparently it's been done recently in a 5th gen body. No great details on it just yet.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=514253

As for Z33 IM's in A32 bodies, there are a couple of people that have done it already, so here's one instance:

I thought the a34 manifold was better than the z33. I remember reading a couple posts about it.

A33B = A34, minus the external EGR.

Better for 60' and possibly 0-60, but anywhere after that(60mph), the Z33 will flow better.

Z33 = high RPM performance
A33B/A34 = Low-midrange performance

The stock Z33 intake manifold doesn't do all that well up top either. It's just better than the unmodified FWD manifolds.

As far as aftermarket IM's go, Cosworth > *. +17WHP on a bone stock non-revup G35.

iirc, someone dynoed a fwd, rwd, and rwd with spacer and proved that you only gain about 5hp close to redline and lose bottom end. not worth it in my opinion.

That's true. It reaches peak ~ 6200, then ---> southbound.

I have an old dyno comparison of my car and an essentially stock Z (my car had some mods)

I laid down a touch more torque(pre 5k), but got after 5.6K+. When I get home, I'll post a pic of the overlay.

I just looked it up and I am definitely going to extrude hone my stock intake because I don't feel like paying $820 for that Kinetix and a Z33 IM actually makes less torque and power on a 02-03 Maxima so I will probably just be porting and polishing the heads too.

I think you'll be disappointed with the results. Besides, extrude honing ain't cheap.

LOL, what do you mean, I know a guy that will port everything for a very reasonble price so I might as well try it, I really have never even seen anybody that has ported anything and has told their gains or anything, but I still bet it will be cheaper then the Kinetix IM.

That comparison doesn't apply:

1. The engine was being run off of an A32 ECU

2. The 2k2 VIAS wasn't being controlled properly.

I think you should do a some more reading before jumping to such hasty conclusions.

Well that is why I am a little confused, there is lots of different opinions on what to do on here, like some people are telling me to get the Kinetix IM and others are telling me to get the 350z IM with the spacer, and others have said porting is what would be the best thing to do. I know that the 350z IM's are really cheap if you find them used and stuff but with stuff that I have found the stock 5.5 gen IM actually has more torque and 20 more HP in the upper RPM range.

Well I have looked but I don't have the money for them right now, I wish I would have jumped on the Hotshot deal they had, but I think that the P&P on the IM will be pretty cost effective for me because the guy I know isn't charging very much at all, but after I save up money for the headers I am definitely going to buy some, do you know any place that sells Cattmann's headers because I went to their home site and couldn't find anything but cat-backs.

Cattman Headers.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=324310

If you were willing to spend nearly $820 for the Kinetix, but can't shell out for headers?

Also, are these people that tell you to do this, that or the other any better than someone with a dynosheet &/or similar data?

LOL LOL LOL

And anyone who spends 819$US+Shipping on an Upper Intake Manifold with the same damn runner length as stock checked their brain at the door.

Dude, I think you're just looking to throw money away on crap you don't need.

1) VQ35 heads flow pretty damn well. To go porting them without having all the other decent bolt ons first is asinine.
2) There's absolutely no guarantee that this guy who is supposedly porting your heads for you has any clue what to do with VQ heads. Has he ever ported a VQ head? Has he put them on a flow bench before and after?
3) Do you know how much work it is to remove the heads on a VQ? I don't know if you have the ability to do it yourself or have some exceptional hookup, but it's somewhere around a 10 hour job just to get them off if I recall correctly, at a basic shop rate of $80/hour it is an $800 removal. Then another $800 for installation. Then whatever your guy is going to charge you to port them. Then go back and see my previous point about not knowing what you're going to get once it's all said and done anyways... see where I'm going with this?

i visit the 350z forums on occasion, and kinetixx is supposed to suck. don't waste your money on that. if you're going to change your IM, get a z33 manifold. prolly find it for about $100 shipped. i was looking into the kinetix, but so many people said it sucked, i decided to save my money and buy a mod that is actually known to give me power (headers).

btw, i just want to confirm with people.... is the 350z LIM the same as the maxima? i thought i read that somewhere, but just wanted to make sure.
