KS Wire Harness or Knock Sensor?

I replaced the knock sensor (reused the original KS wire harness) a couple months ago...because I got the 0304 code. Afterwards, the code was cleared...had 0505 code and all was good.

I noticed poor fuel mileage this past week and so I decided to check for codes (no CEL light on) and I got the dreaded 0304 code again.

Do you guys think the problem is with the wire harness or the knock sensor again? I have a hard time believing the sensor went bad again just 2 months later.

What do you guys think?

Where can I buy just the KS wire harness? Most places only sell the knock sensor. Does the dealer sell just the wire harness? If so, anyone know how much the harness alone costs?

Thanks guys.

Thanks jxkim for the link. I'm going to buy it from Courtesy.

Do you guys think its the harness or do you think the knock sensor could go bad that quickly?

Thanks again guys.

out of curiosity, what grade gasoline do you run?

did you torque the new KS to proper specs?

the harness should be fine, so long as you had everything plugged in securely and didn't get any dirt caught up in the connections. you can ohm it out at the harness side and should get the normal KS readings.

he told me to buy a new harness to be safe. some people dont change it with the new KS, but if you ask me its better to be safe and have some peace of mind

I always use 91 octane (that's as high as we get here in California). I didn't use a torque wrench to tighten down the KS, just used my ratchet wrench. Do you know what the proper specs are for torquing down the KS?

It's such a tight space...I don't think I could get my torque wrench in there.

Thanks for you guys' help.

18 ft. lbs. I replaced my harness. My knock sensor was fine. Apparently whoever had the car before me had the two wires pinched into one wire that one wire then happened to be speakerwire. So i've been running bad for the past 2 1/2 years. Now instead of 100 miles to half a tank I get over 180.
