I'm all out of adjustment room because my cable is so stretched.. is it hard to replace cable? doesn't look like a lot of room around top of accelerator pedal to unbolt old and thread through firewall

 

Might be less hassle to drill 2 new holes in the bracket. Call it 150,000 mile service lol

 

You were half joking but looks like a good way.. you reckon I could fit 2 more bolt holes in there.. has slight ridge where I'd want to drill

If the car is WOT will the throttle butterfly be fully horizontal?

 

The tighter the cable the better. Might not be able to get two new holes in there but you can enlarge the existing holes and play with the bracket angle too. Believe me its not worth the expanse or pain in the @ss factor to change the cable. Do it for free. Tightening the throttle cable is one of those cheap and dirty mods you do in your driveway (Throttle response! ).

In fact at some point during the summer I had my 4.5 gen I had it adjusted for a 1800-2000 RPM idle. It was so tight it raised the idle 400-500 RPMs and had CRAZY throttle response, borderline undriveable with the 6-puck. Id beat everyone at stoplights lol

 

i got a parts car at a friend's house and i'm thinking about pulling the one off that car and putting it on mine since the threads on mine are stripped. i'm sure this will be a PITA.

 

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. It seems no matter how well I tighten it, it just gets slack in it again. It still goes WOT and opens the plate all the way, I just have a smaller "area" of throttle and have slack on the gas pedal before it actually opens the throttle at all (not much, just barely enough that you can feel it).

 

how is the cable connected to the accelerator pedal?
maybe there's a way you can shorten it down there?

right now i'm out of easy in driveway adjustment..
1. its either bracket relocating (bolt throttle bracket to plate to create extra offset for tension)
2. Try and adjust from pedal end - real mission to work in this area of course
3. New cable if going to hassle of 2.
4. Someone else tells me the anser

How hard is it to practically access the top of the pedal, I'll have to see but when I was looking at the clutch pedal it was pretty tight.

Is top of pedal adjustable? The engine end of the accelerator cable has a crimped end so does the pedal end. Just so long as pedal end has adjustment.

 

Could I use the cruise control throttle pulley thing? Is it as strong as the main accelerator cable?

 

wouldn't that be going the opposite direction though? The fsm mentions something about replacing the cable, then shows that picture above, so according to the fsm it's possible, I imagine it can't be harder than doing the pedal swaps on a 5-speed conversion, whichc isn't easy, but It's not impossible, looks like you would just have to undue the tb side then remove two ?10mm? bolts and slip the cable off of the pedal. I removed one on a foxbody mustang that was overgrown with thorns in the rain once, it was a pita but nothing impossioble and just makes you that much better at working your hands around and messing with tricky bolts in places you can't even see. DO IT!!!

 

Was looking at how hard it would be to change accelerator cable.. looks like it will be pretty easy (hopefull) but in the mean time I found you can easily put a small spacer in and easily remove the slack. The spacer is a polishing pad from a dremel I'll find something abit more solid later and eventually replace whole cable.

So in short.. if your out of adjustment room.. just add spacers to the pedal end of the cable.. FTcheapW
