key value clutch?

hey i had a question, why is it that the key value clutch isnt as good as the OEM individual components. the OEM is made by Exedy right, because so is the key value. Also would the key value be good for a non moded 4th gen, easy on the clutch and no racing. sorry if its a duplicate question, but i never found a reason why its not as good.

I really don't know the difference, but I have the Key Value clutch and I am not thrilled with it. It even says on the box that it is not recommended for warranty work, go figure. In my non-modded car, the full power shifts near red-line are really pitiful. Not a slip, but not firm and crisp like they should be. Get the 5th gen set up. Lots of info using search.

Get the non-KV OEM clutch kit. DaveB is your source.

the 4th gen clutch is actually made by Valeo, it is the 5th gen that is made by Exedy

Edit, sorry phenriyv, just saw that now.

most people who have previously posted on this topic (do a search) recommend the 5th gen clutch over the 4th, and everyone trashes the key value. I stupidly allowed the dealer to put a key value in my first 99, and it was noticeably inferior to the original OEM clutch.

I have an Exedy OEM-type replacement. I got it off of eBay for $120 and it works nicely for a non-performance driven car. The pressure plate could be a bit stiffer, but for daily driving it's very nice.

Exedy does make many OEM clutch parts, and to my knowledge they are all of very good quality.

I have a key value on right now, and i'm lightly modded. I will tell you that for daily driving it isn't that bad, but still crappy. However, once you start pushing it just a little, it will slip so bad! I def. recommend not to go with key value regardless of what your looking for in a clutch.

yeah i did a search, and found that everyone dislikes the key value, but i thought the oem one was exedy, and the key value is exedy, so i was wondering why one was worse than the other. thanks for the input.
