So I'm thinking about buying a Y-Pipe

so I'm thinking about buying a y-pipe, but i need to fix some o2 sensors and codes so i can pass smog. can i get a y-pipe before I fix these, or is it even harder to pass smog with the y-pipe on. can you pass smog with a y-pipe on, or is this a very stupid question.

Also, how much is the average price of y-pipes. What is your favorite and why?
Do I need any other parts to install it, or just the pipe itself. How long does it take to install? Thanks for the help. Just a couple questions. thanks. Is there any bad things about having one. Does it make your car sound ricey at all? I know these are stupid sounding questions, but I don't care. Thanks again

to answer your questions:

1. I would replace the sensors by installing them in your new y-pipe and then install it. You will have to drive around a little before inspection to heat up the pipe otherwise you might not pass emissions since the aftermarket pipe eliminates 2 pre cats.
2. pricing - bout 100 used. anywhere from 150-350 new (Warpspeed, Budget, Stillen, Cattman). I love my WSP.
3. Pipe should come with gaskets, hangers, and bolts
4. Install depends on how rusty your old exhaust is (1-3 maybe 4 hours) Also depends on how mechanically inclined you are.
5. With just the addition of a Y-pipe you prob wont notice much in exhaust tone.

I'd replace the o2 sensors do the inspection then install the Y-Pipe. I installed my Warpspeed Y a week ago it took about 2 hours with the car up on ramps and by myself. Go to the Exhaust Sticky it has a lot of useful information for you to help with the Y-pipe.

you will pass emissions no problem as long as codes are gone with y pipe. i had greddy sp1 along with budget y pipe from Canada and passed no problems. by the way my y pipe is for sale pm me if you are interested.

fix your o2 sensors first... then go do a smog check, make sure you pass, and then think about installing a y pipe.

I have not been able to pass a smog check with a aftermarket y pipe installed in either my 97 or 99.

If your car is cold you might not pass smog. The precats are there to work before the main cat warms up, and eliminating them (which is why i'm no longer so hot on ypipes) means your car will pollute a LOT when it's cold.

I passed inspection with mine!

I passed my inspection w/ a y-pipe, hi-flow cat, & a flowmaster exhaust in Connecticut only about a week ago. Just FYI! Lata.

Can't believe the OP got so much help considering he has asked nothing original and not even bothered to read the other zillion Y-Pipe threads.. Even asks if someone is selling one.. sounds like :attention

LAME excuse...because the search function is on the top toolbar under free search. Its not the greatest...and ive heard for the $20 donation its rly worth it. I will eventually donate when I need to do serious work on my car.

dhaney- no, none of the 02 sensors are eliminated with an aftermarket pipe. and also make sure whether you are a fed spec or cali spec. a great site to check out is http://maxmods.dyndns.org/ evap purge control valve is part of the evaporative emissions stuff. not really sure what it does but it has to do with emissions. if youre showing a code, definitely get that straightened out. any type of cel will fail smog checks. check out this site: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=104931

I just ordered the warpspeed y pipe. I am installing this weekend.

I am running a stock cat and Megan racing cat back exhaust. definately worth it.

I paid 199 for the y pipe. It is an easy install for the average wrencher. I have never had trouble passing emissions yet (without y pipe on).

I am SO tempted to buy one. I think it's just a matter of time before I convince myself to get one.

I think I'm detecting some sarcasm here. Not sure why. I'm also having trouble making sense of that 'number.'
