Ok guys I need help this is driving me crazy.
Ok guys I need help this is driving me crazy.
Ok about a month ago I changed my driver side axle on my 99max se auto because the boot seal was broken so I changed it with no problems. Cool note that its a rebuilt driverside axle.
So 3 weeks later I decided to change the passenger side axle and I brought the a brand spanking new axle from a reputable auto parts store out here in nyc for $50 bucks
I get the driverside axle installed, cool. About 4 days later I start noticing viberation every time the car would leave second gear and go into third gear. Once out of third that viberation completel disappears. It doesn't happen in first or the beginning of second gear. It only happens from the end of second gear and all of third and goes away in 4th.
When I mash on the gas from first I would feel the viberation a little. I just noticed this ever since I change my axles and its getting on my effing nerves
I was thinking maybe its a sign I need to change my transmission fluid since I changed it about 35k miles ago. I know I'm due for a flush and filter and will do it tomorrow.
Can you guys tell me if thats what it is? maybe my filter is clogged and its giving me viberation when the gears are changing or Its the new axles which I highly doubt.
Thanks guys

bad fluid wouldn't cause vibrations like that. It may need changing, but that is not that cause of your problem. It is possible that you got a bad axle... It is also possible that this is completely unrelated to the axles and you have a tranny problem. I can't say, I don't have enough experience with these things, but I can tell you changing the tranny fluid isn;t gonna solve it.

I'm pretty good in changing the tranny fluid and filter with no problems, the just turned 124k on the odo. I'm really hoping its nothing big and its just a bearing or something.
maxedout about 2 weeks ago i dropped my friends I30 for him and when i drove his car he has a vibration coming from the wheels...about a week later while driving his car wouldnt move..come to find out his axle came out of the tranny and a piece broke off in the tranny..long story short he has to get a new tranny now..so if i were you i would get that axle checked out b4 it kills your tranny
i heard someone on here say one time that not all new cv's are good. if you got a refab for the passenger side or even a new one, it could still be warped enough to cause shaking. mine are bad now and i sake horibly at the beginning of 2nd. and slightly on up through the mph. take that CV back and get another.
A bad axle is the likeliest cause. Vibrations like that are usually speed sensitive, so determine if its axle/wheel speed by holding it in different gears and seeing if you can replicate the condition at the same speed. If its the axle, it could be a loose nut, it might not be seated in the trans fully, the splines on either side may be just a little too small (you may be able to see weird wear patterns on the splines if this is the case) and if so get your new axle elsewhere. The new axle may also not be balanced correctly.
Update: While I was having that vibration only when accelerating through 3rd gear I decided to get my tires balanced because at the time i got my new axles prior to that I hit a pot hole that literally bent my passenger control are back. So I figured it through my balance out of wack.
Anyway I get all four tires balanced and surprisingly the vibration goes away. Its not as strong as it was before the tires were balanced but its still slightly noticeable so now I'm thinking its actually my tires and maybe I need some new ones.
