Better wheel studs. :P Ive noticed in lots of random pics missing/broken wheel studs, yet none for us.

Third gen FTW

Well besides the 6th gens, we have independent rear suspension.

At least we fix ours and it takes longer to break them.

I have had one break on each front wheel. I thought ours were kind of buttery. Both broke fairly easily.

I've broken wheel studs as well, but I still like my 3rd gen more than the other maxima generations.

i think the one key element that 3rd gen Maximas have over the rest... the passion from their owners. There's a whole lotta love for the 4DSC.

Digi dash - very problem prone...flickering or no display
HUD - same as above...replacement windshields are also very $$
sonar suspension - very very $$$ to replace worn struts. most swap in non sonar units.

i like the 3rd gen like the next guy but there was a reason those items were scrapped from the 4th gen and up...besides the point that the 4th gens were built when nissan were about to go under.

Umm

Digi dash - My car has had it for over 180k miles, and I get none of the above.
HUD - Same thing
Sonar Suspension - THAT is ridiculously expensive. Stealership wanted something like $600 PER strut. Thats when my car got KYB's in the front. I want Konis now though.

for Nissan being close to its death, the 4th gen, i would have to say is a great car, and im still amazed at how they did it, even while on a downward spiral.

maybe not in FL...but the digi dash and the HUD are problem prone in the colder regions where the temps really drop and i believe the solder on the contacts starts to get loose...similar to the mystery fading clock. the S13 cars with digital dash/HUD also have the similar problem. if it's not happening to you then you're lucky or maybe it was repaired in the past but IT DOES HAPPEN.

there are companies that address these issues..here's one of them...
http://www.mrwhizard.com/services2.cfm
1989-93 Maxima Digital Dash - Symptoms: Dark, may come on when warm and/or speedo and odometer not working. HUD not working OR Temp and Fuel gauge works but speedo/odometer/tach gauges are dark. If speedo display is working, it may show speed up to 40 mph when the vehicle is standing still. Repair Cost $189

no way shape or form i'm endorsing the company..it's only for reference.

great motor...so so tranny.
the rest of the car was cheapened to save cost compared to the 3rd gen.

somehow they pulled through it and then renault signed up.

ill definitely agree with you on the tranny, on my parents 5th gen, its disgustingly clunky and has had so many problems. have they fixed it yet on 5.5 or 6th gens yet?

WELL, we are the second owners of the car, my uncle being the first, so no such repairs have been made. Only one occurrence can I recall it going dark, but that was because it got down to like 45 degrees in the morning. After that, it came back on. HUD worked though, so I used that to know how fast I was going. Interesting to know though, since my dad wants to move up north in a couple of years.

Ive had the Digi Dash and Sonar system working for 9 years now , still no problems.... The only thing i had to change were the struts, which i got used from Japan Auto here in Toronto. So Far so good. can't complain. Knock on wood.

i'm not saying that there won't be any ones out there working...but they are prone to problems. that doesn't mean that every member with a working digi dash and HUD have to come in here and tell me otherwise.

are you the first owner of the car?
