The ring on my Nissan keybroke....both of them. Pic included

The part of the key that holds on to the ring broke on my first key a few years back so I got out my spare one and it did the same exact thing. Does anyone know if Nissan reimburses this kind of thing? I would just go have a couple extra keys shaved for cheap but my 1999 has a computer chip in it so I'm afraid it is going to cost a hundred or so either way.
It just seems like a waste of money to have new keys made just because of something stupid like this, especially when the key itself is still good. These things, out of everything, should last the longest I would think, no??
Anyone had to deal with this?? any input is appreciated.
eh...basically...my design but a friend took over the job....all it is is a piece of leather with a hole in the center where I pushed the actually key part through and then sewed it shut. Pretty easy and have no problems now. It beats paying 85 dollars for just a key blank and an extra 60 to program it.
that happened to my electric control, thingy, im not sure what you would call it but i think you know what im talking about. i drilled a hole straight through it and put a key ring in there, works awesome. and i too know what its like, its gay.
If you live in a safe area and do not mind dealing without the transponder chip then do this. (Your car will still be safe and no one will be able to break into it any easier than before, its just you will be disabling the transponder chip).
I would just take one of the two broken keys and tape in somewhere underneath the dash, out of sight. Then go to the hardware store (or somewhere that can cut a key for $5. Have them duplicate your key and go out to your car and use the key from the hardware store as your everyday key. By keeping the original key with the transponder chip underneath the dash, it will still recognize the chip and you will be able to start the car with the copied key. Problem solved for $5.

there is an easier solution for free, drill a whole in the key near the top, it won't get the chip since the chip is small and in the buttom corner. I have done this before for my customers who didn't want to fork out 100$ + for a new key but didn't want to loose their keys, all you need is a drill and a bit about 1/8" or maybe even smaller than that, don't remember exactly but just enough for your key ring to fit through.
you can buy rubber key holder things for keys...around here i can get them at ace hardware.

I was going to do that, but i instead took some epoxy and made a new loop. Then i sanded it down and painted it black... Walla! looked and worked great until one day it broke again.
