How much is a 4.5 gen worth?
I'm posting this question here because this is the only forum that has any info on 4.5's.
Here is what it has on it:
Chassis: 188,000
Tranny is from a 2000, no diff bearing failure after 100k of service
3.5 with 26k now (everything works)
Very good interior (Leather, black)
SAFC-II
WB-02
Upon examination of the car, i found the low tie bar is in bad shape along with other parts of the subframe and some more rust on the underside of the vehicle though I have grinded it off and treated it with rust bullet.
Since I'm starting grad school next month, I've decided that I'm most likely going to part ways with the car and try to avoid part out.
What is a resonable price to ask?

$8k does sound about right...
OT, but I'll say it anyway. Nismology, congratulations on becoming a mod. You deserve it!
BTW, I never post in the Advanced Performance section, but I'm ALWAYS lurking in here.

Im in the same boat as stabone as far as sellin soon. I guess the real question to ask is how much more value does a properly operating 3.5 swap add to the car?
Here's a few things to keep in mind...
- A 3.5 swap will only ADD value to A- a fanatic, and B- a gulible (sp*) person. You try to sell it in the normal market, and they'll ask you why did you change the engine and assume you beat the hell out of the old one, like most people would with other cars
- Because of the value's increase or decrease due to the swap, one would have to sell to a fanatic in order to actually get some more money out of it, as THEY are the ones that see how much work goes into it, and can better appreciate the end result
- You also cant just throw out a number. You have to think of what normal maximas of the same year are selling for in your area. You cant double the value of your car over a normal Max with similar condition just because of the 3.5 you get me?
My car has 140k miles on the body, 47,500mi on the 3.5L, blk on blk leather SE 5spd. Once I fix the AC and put the belt back on the PS, I will probably advertise it for $7,000 OBO, and settle at no less than an already determined price (not saying it here in public for obvious reasons, lol).
Little off Topic, but still related--
Damn man, have you noticed the trend of how many of these 3.5 swappers do the swap, enjoy it, get a bit more power out of it, then move on to the next car? Folks that I recall off the top of my head like JClaw, Nismo, you, myself, etc... Idk about you guys, but Im just tired of FWD and a tin-can flexible chassis, lol.
E36 here I come

I have been trying to sell for about 3 weeks now. I initially posted an asking price of $9K but after thinking about it, I have already went down to about $7K. And its not like I have a regular 3.5 swap. I actually went with cams and ARP rod bolts so that right there throws about $900 into the swap. I tell people my price is really factoring in the cost of swap and the JIC coilovers (worth $2K brand new) Plus I have so many other things into the car, I am really selling myself short. But everyone knows you can't get out of it what you put into it.

Well I was planning on keeping this for a long time, but things have changed. I won't be able to spend much time on the car with 8 hour days of school, 5 days a week for the next three years. I know the car will suffer and I do not want to see my work go down like that. The wife has a new car, so I really only need a car to get to school and back.
I still love the max alot, its a blast to drive, but now its something someone else can enjoy instead of me.
I'll try selling on the board and locally, but I'm probably only going to ask 3-4k and get it out of here before things get going.

Everytime I jacked that car up I could see the front end lower in front of the jackstands.I got tired of pussying around with half-burnouts, wheelspin into 2nd, losing at the dragstrip because 2nd or 4th wouldnt engage, the glass transmission and all... All in all great fun while it lasted but once you realize the chassis aint built for speed its kinda hard to motivate yourself to build the whole thing from scratch and change everything.
The engine was rock solid from beginning to end though. 250 timeslips and 6000 miles of hell! Guy I sold the engine to still has his car (99 5-speed) and it still runs just fine.
I Know most of you are talking about selling i mean..i myself have got a 96 blk maxima and it's the 5spd i really want to get a 350z but due to my entrance to college it isn't really plausible for me to hold a 18g car payment plus the insane rate of insurance i would have to pay =[...i was thinkin about doing the whole VQ35 swap and 6spd then i was going to end up boosting it later on eventually..do the whole 400+whp thing but i mean is it worth it? you guys have been there is it really worth building...NOBODY knows anything about maximas in my area nor does anybody have a VQ35 powered one in my area....my maxima has 157k on it and i'm on my 2nd transmission..but i mean..i figured 6000 would get me a vq35 and 6 spd to go along with it..then build my own turbo kit next year...the only thing is..i wanted a new car but college isn't cheap and i don't wanna get a cheapo deepo slow p.o.s so thats why i considered the swap...but stabone where you lookin to get rid of yours 3-4k? i don't know if i read that right
