Help about a sound my car makes when trying to start

Hi, for about a week now when starting ("cold") it starts cranking and sometimes (almost everytime) i hear like a BIG...... "explosion". Ok the sound is like a "pop" but a damn big pop and im scared it will be the starter, i can get a video with sound, but since it happens 70% of the time i could not be sure to get it, also it started after i "tightened" the alternator/ac belt tensioner, but a friend of mine said that is not the problem since it does not give anymore problems than that.

BTW: when i said cold is what could you expect of a first start but at 87-97 Fahrenheit

I've heard about this before, I think it's an intake backfire. Do a search.

agreed. as ****ty as it sounds... a 'burp' through the intake almost always indicates a timing problem.
