hissing sound behind radio

Ok, I'm not sure if anyone else had this experience, but I recently noticed a hissing noise behind the radio. It hisses when the radio/fan is off. The only way I can get it to stop is to lightly slap the passenger side center console but it only stops for a minute or less and then continues. It has not gotten louder but it has not gotten softer either!

At first, I thought it might be the AC leaking, but that still works. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Real rough stab in the dark.. Leaking flexi section on your Y pipe/factory Y.. more noticeable with radio off? .. doesn't expalin tapping centre console though.. mine sound like a turbo spool when I had a leak there

The hissing sounds like a 2 liter bottle when you open it VERY slowly. Again, when I lightly slap the center console with the strength of your hand hitting a table when it's about 4 inches off a table. The hissing stops for about 30 seconds then continues.

Is there any possibility that it could be the air conditioning?

Oh yea, and it continues when the radio/cd/tape is off...

Sounds like when you hit down hard you re:sealing something .. which slowly expands again and begins to leak.... Could it be the related to the switch/function that switches between sucking air from outside and just recirculating. When you hit the dash maybe it closes for a while

Hmm.. I'm not sure. The hissing sound is constant and never changes pitch when accellerating/decellerating. Fan on/off or radio on/off, the hiss continues. When everything is off, it does become annoying though...

So far, my only defense is to turn up the radio!

I spoke to someone who knows something about cars and their input was that it could be a vacuume seal leaking since it is close to the temperature control area. Thinking about it, it does make sense... Would I need to pull the radio + out? Might there be a way to check if it's that without doing that?
