Fog light projector retrofit?

Sorry guys, I'm new to the whole headlight scene, but has anyone attempted to retro projector fogs into our stock housings/? If not, or if so, where can I go to find more information on this? I'm looking to retro my headlights and was figuring to do both lights at once if I could. Thanks !

It's very hard. One or two members have done it. I have done one side but not the other.

Tatanko has done it

Check out these universal projectors? Comes with all wiring too, I have a friend's max which didn't come with fog lights, what about looking into these? beats paying $150 for a set of OEM fogs?

I like those. I wouldn't want a rock to hit those and break them, but what if you put a piece of plexiglass in front of them to protect them?
I was thinking of getting OEM fogs but I really like those. Maybe put a 3K HID kit in them

You retrofit them into the fog. Don't just use them as a fog light, custom fit them in. I actually like those for a custom fog job. Not sure if they will fit the fog tho. Pat, what projectors did you actually use for your fogs?

I think the plexiglass shield would definitely work. It would keep the fogs from cracking. You could even smoke the plexiglass to give it a nice look. I'm gonna order them and see what they look like and how big they are. I don't think these could be retroed into stock fogs.

They are Hella H3 units, off of an Audi I believe. If I had to go back and do it again, I would make it more worthwhile though and swap in maybe H7 MDX projectors or something.

You would be surprised what fits. My H3 units barely took up half the space inside.

Either way, the projectors in that ebay auction are garbage. I had a set very similar to that at one point and they are absolute trash. They have 0 output and don't even look that good. Take the time, find something halfway decent (at the very least, some sort of OEM projector) and retro it into the stock housings. I'm issuing you a challenge, though: find a way to make new lenses for the stock fog housings to get rid of the lines

I'll take that challenge. I'm sure I can find someway to do it. I wasn't gonna use the fogs to actually use for lighting. I would just use them for the look. I was sure that the putput on these would be garbage. I have an even better set that I ran across last night. Check these out:

I was gonna retro these into the stock fogs. I know a guy that can mold plastic for me. SO i think that will be my first stop enroute to my challenge victory. LOL.
Hey if I get some made then you can have a set for free tatanko .

I look forward to your victory. If it will benefit the community, a challenge is always in order I would gladly pay a sum for some new lenses, however plastic is not going to cut it. Keep in mind the sheer heat produced by these things. Take the bulb out once after it has been on for a while and you'll get the idea. It has to be able to withstand heat combined with the polar opposite of cold in the winter. Plexiglass maybe? Still up for the challenge?

The projectors you linked to are about as good as it gets for an H3 halogen unit. Very similar in design to mine, if maybe a tiny bit better. They would be a good choice, but I would still see if you can get maybe H7's or H11's for the same price on ebay.

Those would be a good choice. I would double-check the given dimensions with how you would want to mount them in the housing to make sure they wouldn't stick out too far in the back and run into anything.

It wasn't gonna be just some run of the mill cheapo plastic. The place that I mentioned does plastic molding for Nissan products. Plexiglass would probably be the best thing to use, even though it would be quite a bit more difficult. But if everything was easy then every one would do it.
The projectors that I linked might be the best because of their size. THe one's you linked have a huge lens on them and they aren't enclosed either. The lens is 2.75 inches. That would take up all of the stock housing. That's the same size I run in my headlamps and it was a very tight fit.

Good to hear. I hope to see a well-done end product, and hopefully I can get a set then as well.

The projectors aren't enclosed, no, but just make a shroud for them. It's quite easy and inexpensive. I have E46 bixenons in my headlights, and they're 3" Honestly, once you have the fog lights apart and have the reflectors out, you'll be surprised just how much space there is. It is essentially a wide-open, thin-walled plastic shell with a glass lense on it.

Polycarbonate is the best since it's UV resistant.

I don't know enough about it, but would it take the high temperatures of the bulbs?

Well, like I said, all you have to do is look around. I'm pretty sure I'm picking up a set of really nice H7 projectors for only $35 shipped

Good output already, and H7 is the absolute best halogen projector to use HID bulbs in (the focal point is almost identical) should I decide to go that route later. Goodbye H3 projectors, hello H7 projectors

I know you are looking for 4th gen but from what I heard the glass part messes up the pattern. As you can see on the 2k the glass is clear. Dr.Roy did a set and I have them now on the car.

Here is a pic:

here is my cut off:
