BUDGET B PIPE BANGING on GAS TANK
dont mind the limp wristed thread title.
i have budget y-pipe, cat, and b-pipe, and a HKS muffler. everything fits fine but the b-pipe hits and is basically resting on the gas tank. i have tried just about everything to stop it from hitting the gas tank. what should i do? what did you guys do to make it not hit. maybe Budget is just a poor design?
thanks.

daaamn that cat is low...lol
Are your exhaust hangers broken? I don't think the pipe should be able to move that far normally. I would say to weld a muffling seperator but I don't think welding around the tank is a great idea

yea i would say the cat has about 2.5 inches of clearance.
no exhaust hangers are broken.
what pipe shouldn't be able to move?
i don't really want to weld something to cushion the pipe, i want it so it doesn't bounce around and rub/bang the gas tank.
any other ideas?

i did tighten up hangers with hose clamps. i've tighten up one at a time all at a time, basically every possible way. when the hangers are tightened it pulls the b-pipe up and scrapes along the gas tank. now if the hangers are loose so the b-pipe is almost touching the gas tank it will just bang it really hard when i go over bumps and it ****ken pisses me off

Yeah, I had to get mine fixed when I changed my muffler since my exhaust shop had to add a flange anyways.

.....Did the same thing, just loosen at the flanges and reposition the pipe so it doesn't hit anything & tighten the bolts....

i just spent the lat 1.5 hours underneath my car fittleing with the exhaust. seams like the pipe and flange on the muffler is a little COCKEYED and long i might take it to an exhaust shop to see what they can do. i broke a gasket in the process too.
When I made mine I had a similar problem, only it hit the bracket the lower control arm attaches to. The way I fixed it was, I took a 2x4 piece of wood and shoved it between the bracket and the pipe. Then I heated the exhaust pipe near the middle of the car where its the straightest. I had to heat the pipe all the way around for it to bend. Once the 2x4 fell out from between the bracket and the pipe I knew there was enough clearance. I haven't had a problem with it since. You could try something similar with yours if you have the means.

Yeah I get those too. I also get noise from what I am guess is the pipe jumping up and down when I turn the car on...
