Misfire - Coil(s)?
Misfire - Coil(s)?
Are the coils on the 3.0 engine prone to malfunctioning? If so then which ones? My car has been running very funny, especially in the morning. It hesitates with little pressure on the gas. It almost stutters. If I push it hard then the acceleration kicks-in. I took it to advance to read the codes and a code came up for a misfire. The guy at the store said it was probably a coil and they tend to go bad on the 4th Gen Maxima. The coils are pretty expensive so I want to replace only the bad one(s). How do I test them? Any info will be appreciated.
How to test them is in the stickies, also you'll find people in the for sale section selling coils for dirt cheap, i picked up 8 (2 were extra) used coild for less than 1 new one. Or there is one guy that sells all 6 of them for a very inexpensive price. He's got an ebay store, i'll see if i can find him.

I did a quick google search and found the following on wiki answers:
"You have maxima 2000 it is working just 5 ignition coils and the last is stopped you chacked it but you found the problem with voltage it doesn't feed breakly with the coil so you need answer?
Answer
The coils have constant voltage to them, each a branch of 1 or 2 coil power wires. the coil "fires" by alternately grounding and ungrounding the negative terminal of the coil. with the key in the "on" position (engine off) there should be constant power (battery voltage) to the positive terminals of the plugs of every coil. If you attach a test light to the positive coil terminal and probe the negative coil terminal on any of the coil plugs, then crank the motor, you should see the testlight flash. If the light stays on there is a short on the coil ground(bad wiring or the computer is keeping it on). If the light doesn't go on at all, the coil ground is open (broken wire or a driver in the computer burnt). If the light does flash and there is power on the positive side, the coil itself is probably bad."
