LSD! Woo-hoo!
LSD! Woo-hoo!
Just got a new tranny in (another auto) with 100k miles on it. Now, before I used to be able to spin the tires without trying hard, sometimes even by accident. I went out last night for the first time with the new tranny and couldnt get the tires to spin. I tried stopping, turning the wheels all the way and stomping on it and all I got is a chirp. I think this means LSD? Im going to lift the front to make sure, some time this week.
You'd have found out when you tried to install it that it was LSD because your driver's side axle wouldn't have worked in an LSD trans. If you didn't change your axle to an LSD axle, you don't have an LSD transmission.
why would you try and lay tire when you just put this tranny in? did'nt you learn anything from having to replace the last one??? i may have had and still do have a lead foot, but you gotta know when and how often and old tranny is gonna take that kind of abuse. take it easy on her and you'll have the max alot longer. good luck
lol, get use to it, my old 98 auto on dry ground could hardley peel out. like just flooring it resultd in maybe a 2-3ft burnout. my freinds 96 after some "custom" mods could peel out pretty good, removed the alt and p/s belt. it actually made a big diff, i didnt believe him at first untill i saw it. with the ebrake he did an easy 30-40ft burnout, and his ebrake sucks lol.
Another thing, LSD VS open diff, the thing is, people think that without an lsd you only do 1 tire fire. That is incorrect, ive seen numourous times people with open diffs doing 2 wheel burnouts, were an LSD shines is in a corner, whenever you take a corner 1 wheel will always have less weight over it, causing it to spin much easier then the wheel with weight over it. With my VLSD, you can really feel it kick in, it doesnt work right away but when it does you feel the tug of the steering wheel and away you go. Sometimes VLSD has scared me, when it kicks in and both wheels start to spin..be prepared for some understeer

And also, the way a VLSD works, one tire has to lose traction before the fluid will turn to molasses and do its thing. This means that you will probably be a one wheel wonder for a few feet at least, unless you're lucky enough to naturally spin both tires from the start.
Before the car went into the shop (thats another thing, I didnt do the work so dont know what exactly they changed) I used to spin the tires a LOT by accident. Starting uphill on a rainy day without spinning was quite a task. Now though, I can mash the throttle all I want at different speeds and nothing happens.... chirps rarely and thats it.
