Paul2kGXE and I met up for lunch today. We checked out each others cars, talked about a few things, and Paul took my maxima for a spin to see what the y-pipe felt like . On the way back to work, I was on 370 heading towards Shady Grove going about 65 mph (limit is 55). This brand new Dodge stratus comes out from nowhere and starts tail gating me. I speed up a little and it is still there tail gating me. So, I decide to hammer it... I take it to about 90 and leave it behind by a lot. Then, I slow down since I need to take a sharp exit. The stratus follows, but again, can't keep up on the turn. We come up against traffic and I decide to just slow down and go with the flow. The stratus gets beside me and I see the R/T badging, and the heavy tints. I look inside and it is some middle aged lady driving .... that made my day

After driving Nauman's car, I want a Y-pipe. I'm going to revise my OSCAI to match his. I like the opening he cut through his splash guard. It's positioned nicely for ram air.

Paul2kGXE - then you'll probably want a b-pipe, pulley, vb-mob.......you get a little and you keep wanting more and more

I've been thinking about improving my OSCAI too - been modding every weekend for the last couple of months but couldn't figure out what to do this weekend!

UMD - how do you have it set-up and routed, are you using shop vac, or dryer tubing? Where do you have the hole cut? any pictures?

Don't you know it! My future plans

1) revised OSCAI. (this weekend)
2) new wheels (before Maxus)
3) Y pipe (?)
4) valve body (at 50-60 k miles)

I took pictures of Nauman's OSCAI. If it's alright with him, I can upload the photos.

What kind of wheels are you planning to get??? I am leaning towards getting 18" Konig Verdicts or Imagines...But I am hesitant b/c of the price, stress on automatic tranny and maybe the speedo adjustment.

It's basically the Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, with the V6, only the Dodge Stratus R/T is the same as the Eclipse

Paul2kGXE: Put up pics of Nauman's Max. Never saw any of them yet...this will be the first.

Does his OSCAI look like SCCA's?

Nauman: Spreading the mod bug as usual.

Do you have a white Max? I saw a guy washing his 5th gen Maxima on my way home and he had the crazy Maxima look in his eyes. I live right off of Travilah Square.

thanks....what, does everyone and their mama suddenly live off of shady grove now? hehehe

you crazy kids and your maximas! <== that's what that lady was thinking

For those with OSCAI remods...
SCCA: damn, your OSCAI looks mad OOGLIE...much more so than mine.....very nice!

On a similar note, I was driving home from work on the backroads, and there is this old guy in a '96 or '97 Civic following me. I am cruising minding my own business and all of the sudden he starts riding my a$$ also. What's up? Do I have a 'race me' sign somewhere? It's not like I was going under the speed limit.....I was going at least 60 (40 limit) Anyhow, I just gave it some gas and lost the dude in the twisties.... has that Fast and the Furious movie transformed everyone into racers? Whats the deal?

Paul, out of all those pages of rims you had, I think the Konig Rated R's looked pretty good. If they are light weight, I say go with those.....not a lot of people have them (at least I haven't seen that many) and they look good.

Rated R's look nice, but one my neighbor's has them. He's only renting though. Hmmm...

thanks for posting the pics.... the tubing is 2.5" shop vac tubing. It is routed straight down and underneath the metal bar that the radiator is above. You have to cut the slit first in the splash guard first and then pull the tubing under the metal bar. It will stay put after that. If it rains, you can slip it back inside the splash guard. and close up the slit.

Nice kill

I had my OSCAI done up almost exactly the same as yours, only 3" pipe. I put it back inside the splash gaurd after I found a butt ton of dirt inside the K&N after only 3K miles. Haven't noticed any performance difference yet. My UDP is going on tomorrow, so I'm pretty eager to see what that's going to do for me.

Also, just out of curiosity, does anyone know the stats for a V6 Firebird i.e. times and what not? My friend has one, auto, and even though I continuously beat him, he still thinks it's a mid-15 car. Just curious so I have something to compare to.

He was saying that his neighbor has the same wheels, so he doesn't want to get them because of that. Then he said that they are only renting (the house).

He's renting the house nearby, so he won't be around too long. It's one thing to have the same rims as someone on the .org, but another to have the same one's as your neighbor.

I see. I feel the same way you do that's why I'm cool with my Tantrums even though other people on the .ORG have them. It would be a different story if the neighbors all had Tantrums on their cars.

Well, I attempted the UDP install this weekend, but never completed it due to my own lack of mechanical knowledge, proper tools, and willingness to jam something inside the flywheel to keep it from moving. I wanted to make sure I could get it torqued down properly, so I stopped until I could do it right. Maybe next weekend. Also learned a valuable lesson about tensioning the belts. The rear tensioner is a backwards screw-righty-loosey, leftie-tighty.
At least now I know how. Once again I'll enter a plea to anyone in the Virginia area with a hair of mechanical knowledge to help me with the install, and I don't mind driving a little to get there. I have the y-pipe coming too here in a few days (Cattman said they just shipped it-WTF??) but I don't think it's gonna be as hard. Like I said, lack of metric tools and a reluctance to do something that could damage the teeth on the flywheel are what's holding me up. Maybe next weekend though...

nice kill, Nauman!

Sorry I couldn't meet up with you and Paul last week for lunch - all hell is breaking loose at the office right now. As soon as we fix one problem we discover one more to take its place (or two) so the list is growing!!!!!

**** continues to hit the fan this week, but next week might be better so maybe we all can meet up sometime then. Looks like there's a couple guys in the area so maybe they'd want to meet up too.

Later,
