whats wrong with my car?

When driving down the road on occasion my car will kinda sputter. if i floor it the rpms will jump up and then fall right back down continuously. when i start slowin down it just dies. would this be a fuel filter or the mass airflow sensor?

most likely the MAF does your car shut off why you take your foot off the gas to.

im pretty sure in the fsm it shows to disconnect the maf harness
to see if the car runs better although it wont allow the rpms to go above 2000 the purpose is to trick the ecu into thinking the maf is bad
and put itself into "failsafe mode where it will use a preset program to determine o2 levels which wont give you the best mpg but will allow it run properly and tell you its the maf
i think its the same for o2 sensor and?
