oovi OR MEVI can not decide

Well I am just wanting some info on which to get I know that the mevi is basically bolt on and the oovi is a lot more envolved. But what is the best setup if later I want to go supercharged?

If you plan on supercharging, either one is good.

If you plan on getting the most out of your set-up, S/C or N/A, 00vi.

If you posted this question at this date and time, you have not seen the advanced performance forums.

This would lead me to believe that you have no clue as to what is involved re:00VI.

So, with that out of the way, get a MEVI if you can, but, the real advice: Research the subject until your eyes bleed. After that, do it again. Until then, post REAL questions.

The ?'s in this thread can only be answered by you.

plus, after reading, you will decide if it's worth it or not without a JWT ECU. the way i see it, to get the most out of both, they must be used together.

survey says 00vi because its already proven that it produces more power than mevi, but mevi is very direct and easier to install than the 00vi mod

think i will go with the mevi since i can not afford trouble with my car which is my daily driver. But it sucks that you cannot run a supercharger. At least thats what I am told?

The obvious question is what mods the OP has already undertaken.

You don't start with either of the alternatives you are contemplating.

For example, what kind of aftermarket y-pipe are you presently running?

What is that combined with ...stock airbox, CAI, etc. etc.?

Don't put the cart before the horse!

Going from ypipe to headers will net you ~6-8 more hp. Why spend the money and time (lots of it) to go with headers when you already have a ypipe? Stick with your plan of MEVI with JWT ECU, or 00VI.

Or, save your pennies and go for boost, whether it's turbo or SC.

Why is it so hard to write 00vi rather than oovi. It's called 00VI because the parts come off of the 2000-2001 maxima. Hence 00VI.

As everyone else has said get the 00VI if you can install it. However if you're less technically inclined, you should think about the MEVI since it's easier to install.

MEVI. I see waaaaaaaay to many threads of people having problems with the 00VI. MEVI is a direct bolt-on which was the selling point for me and to me it wasnt worth the extra trouble for an extra few lb-ft.

I love my 00VI. It's just as reliable as stock

The OP sounds like he'd be better suited to a MEVI, though

yeah no trouble with my 00VI setup, cold start you have to keep your foot on the gas pedal and rev lightly and real quick like she is good to go for the rest of the day. The 00VI blows away the USIM when setup correctly.

A good place to start is the 00VI for Dummies thread that should be a sticky, but presently is hidden in the all motor section about 13 pages back.

It was a spin off from those books like windows for dummies, lawnmowing for dummies, etc. I certainly know now how involved the swap can be, and I know heaps more now than I did when we started my swap.

You have to figure out which setup you want to go with, gather up parts, and get started on the swap.

But I say this, if I got through this swap, anyone on the org can do it, especially with the help from your maxima.org "all motor" brothers. People get a bit rough on here with newbie questions, but anyone who jumps into a swap and starts a thread in that section will always get plenty of help to see them through to completion.

As for the MEVI, I always hear the difficulty level is much less, but I never liked the whole low end loss thingy. You got much more top end but you lose some low end, it can be gained back with upgraded ecu to put you back where you started. But the sweet thing about 00VI is that there is no low end loss, I believe there is low end gain ! And top end simply punishes the USIM.

I used to run pretty consistent 9.0-9.1 1/8 mile times on my way to the 1/4 mile finish line with the USIM, and with the OOVI im seeing 8.7's often and 8.8's easy.

Anyways it sure is cool we have the options for a 4 door japanese family car isnt it ! So take your pick (USIM, MEVI, or 00VI)

Please be aware of the date of the last post before you bump and post in a thread. In this case, the thread was 7 years old and your bump wasn't justified as you didn't ask a legitimate question or add relevant and/or helpful information.

There are forums where it's okay to start a new thread to ask where your cupholder is - this isn't one of them. The information here is rarer and harder to come by so respect the ones who educate you. Try not to dilute the information or resurrect dead threads because of your ego.
