I was told this would happen, but I did not believe it.

So guys-

I dynamatted my car about 2 yrs ago. I did my two front doors and sealed them really well. I have noticed now that my drivers side door has some play and seems to be sagging a little from the hinge area. if I grab the door while its open, I can move it up and down slightly, where the passanger side if I try the same thing, has no play and the car goes up and down with the door. I am assuming that this happened to the extra weight of the dynamat? Jeez! Now, when I close the door, I think the door is kissing the sill first and then catching the lock. Obviously when the door is closed there is no sign of a problem, but you can definitely hear and feel that the door is hitting the frame first before it closes. Is this adjustable? I dont even know where to begin.

Thanks for your help

Unfortunately this condition is not adjustable, but it is common, even without the added dynamat weight. The repetitive opening and closing of the driver's door causes the upper hinge to wear excessively. There are after market kits available to renew the hinge pin & bushings. I repair them the difficult but better way by replacing the entire hinge assembly. When you do it this way, the front fender usually must be removed for access to the bolts.

Oh ****. FUNK that.

I guess I will have to baby the door. I'm not messing with it unless it becomes a real issue then.

Just go to a body shop & have them 're-hang' the door...I can't imagine it is greatly expensive...

yea i had the same problem on a ford explorer just buy the hinge kit they arent too expensive and with that kit you dont have to take the door off and its not too difficult... it may not be as good as replacing the whole hinge but it worked for my sagging door im sure it would solve your problem

You don't have to remove the fender to remove the door.
