Projector Fog Light Retrofits Done!!! Pictures inside!

Hey all,

I posted a thread saying that I was going to do a projector retrofit and I just finished it. It wasn't the best job I could have done, but it will do. There is some freaking glue that ran down the freaking inside of the fog lense. Oh well, I'll fix that some other day.

As far as a write up, I didn't have a camera with me, so sorry, no write up.

The retrofit was pretty simple and straight forward. If you want to do a projector retrofit, the bosch mini has great output and a pretty nice cutoff.

The retrofit was pretty much as follows:

1) try to remove the glass lense by baking it. The Passenger side would not budge so I dremeled right behind the lense which I later JB Welded back. The driver side was ok and I was successful in getting the glass lense off by baking it. Keep in mind, mine are not stock OEM fog lights, they are the ebay ones
2) Once you remove the glass, remove the reflector and trash it. You cannot fit the projectors in there with the reflectors. There is simply no room. To give you and idea, my projectors were 1.5" in lense diameter.
3) I was going to paint the housing black, but i got lazy and didn't want to wait for it to dry.
4) Test fit the projector, you do not need to cut the back of the housing, the bosch mini fits and drill holes to mount. I really didn't need to aim it either, because the top of the projector was flat. I just pushed them against the top of the housing to line them up.
5) Test fit on the car to make sure they are aimed
6) Aluminum tape the side of the projectors to stop light leakage
7) JB weld the lense back on.

Thats pretty much it.

Here are the picks:

Stock fogs, bosch mini projectors, Luminic JDM yellow H3 bulbs.

with the lights off ( during the day) can you actually see the projector in the fogs?

and how much did you pay for the bosch projectors?

Sounds like you more or less did your retrofit just like I did. With the reflectors removed, there is TONS of room in there, and you never need to cut the back due to the humongous circular opening there for that "cap."

Just like you, one of my lenses got some glue crap on it as well. It has since sort of baked off a little, but if you get up close, you can still tell where it was. Not a big deal 99% of the time, but just to let you know you're not alone

I, too, am interested in seeing your cutoffs. As others said already, mine were sort of curved due to the fresnel lines on the glass lenses of the fog lights themselves.

No you can't really see them. The glass on the fog has ripples in it that kinda covers it. You can see a circular shape if you look really hard.

I'll try to get those sometime next week. The cutoff was straight until I put the lense back on. There is still a cutoff but it's a bit fuzzy. I will try to take pictures with the beam against the wall.

Hey Karim,

It's not really hard. I do recommend getting the aftermarket ebay ones. They lenses can be baked and pryed off. You will lose the reflector in the housing which doesn't really matter anyways.

Yep, I did the same thing you did. I was stupid and started cutting the reflector and then test fitted. Guess what, it didn't fit. I freaking bought a rotozip for nothing. I'm not so worried about the glue, you really don't notice and I don't plan to show my car, so it doesn't need to be perfect. The glue suprisingly doesn't affect light output. I will try to get pics of the cutoff next week.

Yes, Luminic JDM Yellow. I might get H3 HID's but I don't see the point after seeing the output.

Nope doesn't do justice at all. The bosch minis are only $45 for the pair.

These are some really bad pictures but the beam angles up toward the outside of the beam. The cutoff is relatively flat in the center.

Hmmm, these are sweet, thank to you and Tatanko, I am really motivated to do a fog retrofit soon, just one last question as I seem to have a hard time understanding, which aftermarket fogs did you use/reccommend using? I see all this talk about Lexus fogs, but which ones exactly and do they just bolt on just like that?

Great job and thanks for the advice!

The cutoff looks pretty similar to mine. Mine is a *tiny* bit sharper of a cutoff, but nowhere near what it is without the fog light lens on. Without the fog lens on, the cutoff is razor sharp and actually has red right at the cutoff line.

is it possible to use the h3 or 9006 yellow capsules instead of the yellow bulbs when you use the bosch mini projectors? i don't know how big the capsules actually are so i'm wondering if they can fit or not since i want to do a foglight mod in the near future.

even though the cutoff isn't perfect with the lenses on, they still look awesome and it's a job well done.

Are you aware of how the yellow capsules work and how they fit to do their job? Take a look at a write-up once and pictures of them being installed and then look at a projector. You would pretty much have to ruin a perfectly good projector to do it and the output would probably be ruined as well. (Sorry if I came off as a ****, I just didn't know how else to word it.)

The cut off is decent for what the lenses allow. I am happy with it. What projectors did you use?

I used factory fogs from ebay, Bosch mini H3 projectors from HID Planet, and Luminic JDM yellow h3 bulbs.

The lexus fogs mostly have the yellow capsules already in them and require no modifications to the housing itself, but might require modification to mount.

I try I try. I may end up getting 3000k HID kit for the fogs later.

They way that the Bosch Mini's are set up, there is a relatively wide opening on the side that you may be able fit the yellow capsules. I have no idea as to how you would keep them in place unless you jb weld the sides. The reflector cut off shield can be removed if more space to work is required. It would be a really hard job to do. Keep in mind, I do not know how large the yellow capsules are.
