My boyfriend and I decided to purchase a bottle of Meguiar's PlastX to try to remove the haze and nastyness from our headlights - he has a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Orvis and I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE. Let me say that I love this stuff. I thought that I would have to purchase an entirely new set of headlights or pry the old ones apart to clean the inside, but a four dollar fix was exactly what I needed. I recommend it.

Didn't do the best for me...I am now considering wetsanding.

 

They look much better...good job.

The key is in the application. Using a PC with Plastix or Novus and a 4 inch pad works really well.

 

I still dont feel confortable doing this myslef. Im afraid ill messing something up.

 

It wasn't hard at all. I used a 4 in" pad and applied the PlastX in a circular motion. It says to start with a small area at a time. I did about two or three layers and wiped off the excess with a soft cloth. It's similar to waxing your car, except no muscle is required to remove the extra stuff. You can get great results doing it manually, but I'm betting using a buffer would make it come out twice as nice.

 

yea I wet sanded with 600 grit then 1000 then 2000 then finished off with my PC and some Plast-X saved me about $150+

 

I tried this PlastX and it didnt really work for me... my headlights look more hazy now than they did before... all I had to wet sand with was 800 grit... do you think I can clear it up if I get some 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit and then use the PlastX???

 

800 is far to coarse for this(without stepping up). I used 2000 only to clear up mine. Use soapy water also, works better.

I did wetsand it.......... I picked up the CV Headlight Restorer/Defogger today from WalMart that was talked about in another post, its got 1000 and 2500 grit plus cleaner and sealer so I think ill try it tonight

 

For best results: Spray your headlight with soapy water and then use 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 grit sandpaper. Finish it off with Plast-X applied with a Mothers Powerball.

Mine look brand new now.

 

Got it exactly right, (same concept) except I used scratchX instead of PlasticX(all I had). Also, I didnt use a powerball, just some elbow grease, no need to buy one if you dont have one.

Do you let this stuff dry after applying, and then wipe it off? Back of the bottle doesn't mention the drying part but otherwise I dont see how this is gonna work.

mHOVA: I didn't let mine dry completely, if I remember. Don't treat it like a wax, more like a cleanser. I applied and removed excess a few times, then again my lights were HORRIBLE.

 

I just tried this on my foglights since I swapped to Silverstars. It made a very slight difference, so then I turned a 15min job into a 2 hour project and sanded them.

I'll make a post in a bit with pics before Plastx, after plastx, and after sanding and plastx.
