Heat risers for exhaust headers -- do they help?

I was reading an article on heat risers for exhaust headers; i.e., parts that go between the block and the headers to help dissipate heat.

Anyone know if they work and if they are available for our engines?

Your time.$/effort should be spent elsewhere.

Sounds like phenolic spacers. IMO, they go better on the otherside of the engine, i.e., intake manifold.

I dont know about those but i did coat my new headers with that heat-paint to keep them from heating up too much and that **** is crazy. Within like 45 minutes of letting my car cool down after a drive I can touch the headers no problem...but the intake manifold, forget about it...or any other part of the exhaust is way too hot.

I saw 'heat risers', thought maybe dr-rjp decided to go carbureted...heh.
But as they say, I wouldn't bother trying to put spacers in between the heads and manifolds. At best, you won't have leaks but you'll throw the alignment of the manifold to y-pipe, I can't see how they would still line up if you space the manifolds out a bit.

I didn't even think about that. I had to get my ypipe cut and shortened when I installed some aftermarket headers on them and I don't think it ever lined up properly because when I take the y pipe off I can see exhaust burns on the flange of the y pipe like its not lining up with the exhaust ports.
Just something to keep in mind...could turn into a hassle.
