Question about CPS sensors

My car has decided to stall out on me while i was making a turn (not cool). When i tried to start it again, it would crank, but woun't turn over. I let it kool off for like 15 mins. It started, but gave me a CEL. I could only proceed for 4 blocks until it cut out on me again. (same thing) I waited a bit, it turned over...blah blah blah. The car works just fine until itcuts out. I havn't pulled the codes yet (i'm waiting until tomorrow when my neigbor will hook up a scanner. I have this feeling that it's a CPS sensor. Which CPS sensor would cause these symptoms? It might be possible that it's just covered with gunk ('cause i'm 800 miles into my 1st Auto-RX pahse). I've moved my car to a diferent parking spot. Hasn't cut off on me while doing that.

Why not check the codes now and avoid confusion? Sounds more like a MAF failure than a CPS. Check the codes, wont take more than 5 minutes.

hmm.....interesting, i thought that i wouldn't be able to go above 2,000 rpm if it was the MAF? I'm sorry it's a little dark to go and try the ECU screwing. I guess i'll just wait for the scanner. Thanks!!!

Yes, if the MAF goes, you will rev to a max 2500rpm. If it is intermittent, your car may not start, will stall regularly, and idle badly. Unplug it and see how it runs. Should be smooth and behave normally up to 2500, then it stutters and misses. Be warned, it may take a while to start the first time after being unplugged.

Thanks for your reply!! I'm pretty sure i was able to rev to about 3,000 rpm (trying to pass someone going 20/hr in the left lane). But then when i stopped then it died shortly after. The thing is that it didn't miss or idle badly (yet) it would just die unexpectedly (and unnoticeably). I guess i'll try to unplug the MAF tonight, but i'll most likely wait for the scanner. In any case, I’m already trying to find a decent replacement MAF. I'd get a brand new one if it didn't cost "an arm & a leg".

When my MAF died, it was an intermittent problem, i.e. able to rev over 2.5k, but it would stall evry-now-and-again.

New MAF = arm/leg
Used MAF = peanuts.

Any word on the actual code it's throwing?

No, NmexMAX, i'm sorry, i know you're trying to help as fast as you can, (and i thank you!!) but i won't be able to know the code until tonight. (Currently @ work, back @ 6pm or even 8) I'm just tyring to look @ all possiblilties. Can we dismiss a CPS sensor? Do they cause stalling issues or just Starting issues?

From my experience, the CPS would only cause starting issues.

yeah, that's what i'm thinking as well. So i'm wondering now, what's the difference between the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors and their failure symptoms?

well guys, my neighbor scanned the codes for me and it turned out to be the CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. The one that's easiest to get @ Thank you very much for your support! I'm gonna try to get one @ the stealership. (it's faster) What about the remaining two "crankshaft" sensors as described in this pic? http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasit...1784_1814_1816 What kinda symptoms would one of those throw?

Change the cam sensor and wait until the crank sensors go out before changing them.

Well, i've replaced the sensor last night. All went well except the SES light wouldn't go out (after disconnecting the battery) until my neighbor cleared it with his scanner. All is well once again. Thanks for all your help!
