pretty sure you wash with Dawn to remove the wax, then clay bar, then polish, then wax. But your paint is fresh so wait a month.

Your friend is correct. Polish, then wax. Polish removes scratches and swirl marks. Wax then protects what you just polished.

You don't have to wash with Dawn. In fact it's not a good idea. It's not good for the paint, rubber and trim. Polishing will remove any leftover wax before you wax again.

My process: wash with automotive car wash soap, clay bar, polish, seal, wax.

New paint (from a body shop, not factory) should not be waxed for at least a month as mentioned. Polishing is ok.....I've yet to see a paint job that didn't need further polishing.
