Whats up everyone. I heard that adding multiple after-market performance parts to a car is bad for it daily driving wise. Kinda similier to actual "sports cars". Cars like the Corvette, Viper, ect. that arent ment to handle daily driving.

Parts like the Y-Pipe, Exaust, and Super-charger especially. Like adding too many of these performance parts actaully downplays on your car and can worsen it. (If that car is your daily car). Especially when all these parts are combined.

Please help me out on this one. Thanks Alot.

RE: Performance Parts...

No they're not bad for your car. I don't know about the Y-pipe, but exhuasts and superchargers are fine. As a matter of fact, the main idea of a supercharger over turbocharger is that it is always on. It can handle daily driving perfectly, as long as maintained properly. The only cases in which you have heard these are bad is for the Honda boys - the guys who put cheap a** Jackson Racing superchargers on their cars and floor them at every light - yeah those cars go bad. But the people on this forum, the ones who really care about their cars and performance - not just trying to boast their parts and ACT like they can beat on their car - they use their cars to their full extend and take care of them fully. They open their hood after every run and check to make sure their car is okay. They know about every part they put on their car and how it helps peformance. Maybe www.MaximaDriver.com will have some information for you. Just trying to help.

Thanks vyrus, your always a help. I guess its just a stereotype in the eyes of some people, but they say too many mods=bad for daily driving. Before I get any other performance mod, the Valve body needs to be upgraded.

BTW, Have u/anyone ever heard of making monthly payments on Expensive upgrades like superchargers ? I just cant afford to front 3 1/2 G's. (I live in Central Florida if that helps any)

RE: Monthly payments...

Never really heard of making monthly payments. Most people save up and buy them. However you can call Stillen and ask them if they'd do it. The only problem is that if you buy from stillen it will be more like $4500. You could take a loan if you're really desperate. Or maybe look for some nice used parts (believe me I know $3000 is still a b*tch but every penny counts right?). Sorry I can't really help but maybe you should call Stillen.

How much horsepower does it add? And is Stillen the only manufacturer of superchargers for our cars? Thanx.

WTF is that supposed to mean. They are made to handle daily driving. They cant make a car under the assumption that it wont be driven hard all the time. What are they gonna do, put a weekly mileage limit in the warranty? I dont think so.

RE: Supercharger...

The Stillen supercharger is made by Vortch, but sold through Stillen (the designed it together if you want to think of it like that). It is called the Stillen/Vortech V2 supercharger, and is supposed to add 40% horsepower. The thing is that many people are having problems with the V2 supercharger. The V1, which is no longer made, was very good and reliable, but when Stillen decided to "make it better", the V2 came out. Almost every one of them comes with missing parts, and they are more costly than the V1s. A turbocharger was supposed to come out for the Maxima, but it never really hit production. YES, you can buy it, but it cost you a little over $10,000. VERY rare as well. Well, now we are just going to have to deal with the V1/V2 superchargers. NOTE: I'm not trying to diss any of you people with Vortch V2, I'd buy it if I had the money - its the most effective power gain yet.

Unfortunately only bad news travels faster than good news. I've got the V2 installed in my '98 Max SE last October and the only problem I have was with the drive belt squealing during the wet winter months. I don't flog the car much either. I bought mine thru Kenny at Stillen and he's a good guy. No missing parts period. I waited 2 years since I saw the article in R&T Oct. '98 for them to work out the bugs. I took my kit and car to a speed shop that specialized in Vortechs and Mustangs and it was worth it.
Cost me $3300 US so in Canadian dollars its practically double.
Worth it?? Oh yeahhh!

Btw I set up a line of credit so I used that to pay for it instead of by credit card.

mod bad for a max

in my opinion mods like hi flow in take and exhaust can actually help your car in fuel efficiency wise.also i heard that when you install a super charger you should also install an oil cooler it seems like with the big increase in h.p. you would make the engine work harder ..to sum it up, upgrading other parts of the engine wouldnt hurt.Im not nocking the super charger at all wish i had the money for one.I just think you would have to upgrade other parts of the engine as well.. just my 2 sense...

Your engine develops power by burning fuel. If you want more power you burn more fuel (step down on the gas pedal). If you want to increase the maximum power your engine produces you have to modify it in some way to make it burn more fuel per unit time. There are several ways to do this. Nitrous and supercharging are two ways to make lots more power.

There is no free lunch. A modified engine will use more fuel and be less durable than a stock engine. An engine which develops more power also puts more stress on the piston crowns, cylinder walls, connecting rods, engine bearings, etc. Remember that the designers made decisions about bearing size, cylinder wall thickness, piston design, head gasket clamping force, etc. etc. based on stock power, not your hopped-up power.

If you put performance mods on your engine and then drive like a little old lady, you wasted your money.

If you put performance mods on your engine and then drive it hard, you will shorten the life of your engine and transmission. If you know that and will accept the big repair bills without whining, okay.
