I have not been to the dealer for service since
before I moded up my car. It is nothing that
drastic, just a JWT Pop Charger and a Courtesy FSTB.
I am noticing a grinding coming from the
front brakes when stopping. I want to go to
the dealer to have them check the problem.
Should I expect them to give me $hit about
the mods. If so, what can I say in my defense?
Other then just F-off.

Hmm, I say go for Smithtown first.. I bought my car at Habberstad and both times I've brought it in for service, I was left expecting a little more, plus I know they're tough on cars with mods (he immediately told me he'd refuse to look at my rattling bose sub if i had any aftermarket stero stuff done, luckily i didn't).. so I went over to Smithtown to talk with bluefish (4th gen member) and see if he could help me out with service on my sub, he took a listen and agreed it didn't sound right, so now I have an appointment at Smithtown for the same thing Habberstad couldn't help me with...

it depends on the dealer with mods... However, brakes and the mods you have are unrelated...they should have no reason to deny you service on brakes...

if a dealer refuses service becuase of mods, make sure to get it in writing that says that warranty service was denied because of it. By law, they have to prove that the aftermarket modification directly caused the problem. Only then can they deny service to you. By getting it in writing, you can pursue the case further if you wish.... or just take it to another dealer.

OK. Here's what I'd suggest. Don't just show up at the dealership with your problems and your mods. Call around first. Talk to a Service Writer from each of the dealerships you're considering going to and tell them what your concerns are. Ask them if they think you'd be better off removing your mods before you bring your car in. Whatever you do, DON'T FIGHT BACK! If you don't like what you hear, thank them for their time and call another dealership. When you find someone who seems willing to work with you, take your car in. But make sure you deal ONLY with the Service Writer you spoke to. When you get to the dealership, begin by thanking the Service Writer for being willing to "bend the rules" a little to help you. Go out of your way to develop a relationship with that individual. Believe me, you'll be glad you did.

so if they say, "its your modifications, we wont service your car"

does that mean that, they wont fix your car under warranty, and that I will have to pay to get it fixed?

i mean, they cant completely refuse to fix my car right?

No. They'll be happy to take your money. But they may insist that you either bring the vehicle back to stock or pay to have it brought back to stock first.

Trust me, there's a better way to handle it. And it almost always begins by asking questions rather than making demands.

Either way brakes can't be warranted.. Can they?
What might cause it to grind when under
a bit more then normal stress?
It only happens when slowing down quicker than
normal after driving at about 30-40 mph.
Thats the best way to try and explain it....

That happened to my wife's GXE. She took it to the dealer and they told her she had a rock stuck in her brake pad. They fixed it for no charge.
