Changing brake pads questions

This should hopefully just get a quick response. I've read the how to's and searched the forum already but can't find the answer. This is my first time changing the pads myself so I don't want to screw something up.

How far are you suppose to push the piston in? All the how-to's just state that you push it in, but are you supposed to depress it fully or just enough to get it back on?

heres a good way leave the old pad on the piston side use your c-clamp and push it back till its flush as possible withe caliper that way you also dont damage your piston.

yea, all the way in and then the first few times that you apply the brake, they will adjust and you will be good to go.

also is it better to actually turn the piston to depress it or to use the c-clamp method. I've seen both described and was wondering which was easier/safer?

you only have to turn the rear pistons, thats the only way they can be depressed. the front can just be pushed in with the clamp.
