ECU is fuxored....
I had a thread going before...Ill dig it up soon. Anyways today me and Kev (KRRZ350) determined that the ECU is the culprit and I am in need of a 99 Cali-Spec 5MT ECU. The reference voltage on the pin for the KS was reading 0.02 where it should be reading anywhere from 2.0-3.0. So, the ECU is what is not allowing the 0325 code to clear and most importantly, get my timing back.
Now I was on car-part.com tonight and was looking for an ECU. There were two options for 99 Cali-spec 5MT SE's. "Thru bulid date 9/98" and "from 10/98". My car was built in 11/98 and I selected the "from 10/98" option. There were 0 matches.
Now if I selected the "thru 9/98" there are 4 ECU's, 2 of them are local and at decent prices. What exactly is the difference, if any, from a 99 built before or after 9/98. For the $75 bux the junkyard is asking I am just tempted to try anyways.
Here is the old thread BTW: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=527546

Hey I just got your pm, I've already been browsing on car-part.com, you need the after 10/98 ecu, and what stinks is it is so confusing, I can't figure out if "thru 10/98" or "from 10/98" which one is the later one, lol, you know what I'm talking about right?
Yeah ftr, it was actually 0.00 volts, yet it puts out 4.4 millivolts consistently and no amount of wiggling the wire around changes that so I know it's not a pin/connection issue, and my multimeter probe to probe doesn't read any mv's either. big up's to Nismology for recommending me to check the reference voltage, at first I couldn't see it ruling in or out the ecu, but in this case it has, we were actually talking the other night and he agreed with my findings that the ecu is indeed the culprit, it sucks because not only is removing the ecu harder than pulling the damn engine, but you just HAVE to be 5mt '99 cali spec

I was bored today so I called the 4 junkyards on the "thru 9/98" and those are the ones we need. I think I found this place in TX that has one for $125 shipped. The car has already been destroyed so I cant decode the VIN but they gave me the code from the ECU. To complicate matters even more, they told me that in 99 there were two different types of ECU's an earlier model (up to 9/98) and a later model (post 9/98).
Anyways, the code is:
A18N72ZA9 9615 04729117-WA18111A9W
I think I will call the dealership tomorrow and see what they can do, if not I can just call Dave B.

I actually went to the dealership yesterday and they gave me two part numbers.
The first one is the original part number and it is: 23713-4L702
The second on they gave me is the revised part number and it is: 23716-4L704RE
I am going to have fun finding this part as there were over 100 different ECUs made for 99 maximas......
